Default The Steelers will draft #20, #19, where???

..and where would we have drafted if we had finished 8-8 or 7-9??

Joe Haden, the best corner in the draft, won't be there when we pick, so I say go for best Safety and then ILB, LT, and OL, DL, Safety, and OLB.

Sign two FA corners and hope for the best.

(Walter's Football, http://www.walterfootball.com/, has the best early draft links (check them out now), but the best of the best is "Hailredskins.com," which is not up yet for the 2010 draft, but will have links to over 200 mock draft by April.)

It looks like 1.18 is where they draft. Haden will be gone and so will Mays, but if one of them happens to be on the board at pick number 14 or 15 look for a trade up. Otherwise, as always, I believe the Steelers will take best player available and there is a good chance that Terence Cody may be there at 1.18.

The draft is deep with safety talent, so the best safety on the board at 1.18 could be an option, unless, he's second round talent.

I'd scorch my shorts if we got Taylor Mays.

He was a top 10 pick last year who had a down year this year only because his team wasn't as good.

Kiper has him as the 13th best prospect as of 12/31 here:

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft...ory?id=4785309

Scouts, Inc on ESPN.com has him 18th.

If we don't keep Logan, I want Best out of Cal and a Corner. We don't need a safety with an early pick, Clark and Polamalu will be fine along with Ike in the secondary. We need a CB and move Gay to back up spot duty, that is something he can handle.

I like Clark, Polamalu and Ike but we need to fill one corner with a draft pick. Is there a corner good enough in the draft that can start next year?

I would love to get berry but it aint gonna happen. We might go Dez Bryant here if we are not sure about sweed. Wallace is a good number 3 but i dont think he could be a long term number 2, Bryant can KR/Pr which means we can cut Logan and keep Madsion has our St Ace.

Ordirck is the pick i like in round 2, I dont think they go with an even Heavier Hampton and that is what Cody is.

Terish Cox can play both Fs and Cb and would be a great value pick in Round 3.

Berry and Haden will be gone.
But Earl Thomas safety out of Texas is a ball hawk,
he's someone we should keep our eye on if he declares.

Help me out with this as I don't follow college football enough to know about these two. Are these guys good enough to move up in the draft to get them? Can either start immediately? I think we need immediate help at Gay's corner and move gay to the bench where he is okay.

yeah agreed gay absolutely has to go...
i think berry out of tennessee is great, but mel kiper jr. (college football analyst) is currently projecting him as a top 3 pick, so he would be very expensive... the reason I was considering eric berry, taylor mays, or earl thomas was because i think we may let ryan clark go. they are all safeties but berry and thomas could play corner. i think mays and thomas would still be around at pick 18, so we shouldnt have to move up for them...

Alot of people think Taylor Mays (usc) is overrated but he is a physical freak, (6'3/230, 4.3 40) he is criticized for taking bad angles on the ball. But i think that is something that can be taught.. especially by lebeau and polamalu. if you cant change with a teacher and player like that then there is no hope for you, but i wouldnt sleep on Mays if i was Kevin Colbert.

Joe Haden out of florida is considered the only "shutdown corner" in the draft, and is projected to go really high (top 10 i think)
I personally think he is a little overrated, and I dont think we would want to trade up that high for 1.) a corner, and 2.) a potentially overrated corner.

I think Javier Arenas out of Alabama is an underrated corner, that would could snag in the second round.

Polamalu, Thomas/Mays, Taylor, Arenas as the steelers secondary... YIKES

If the draft indeed went that way, they wouldn't be starting until 2011 anyway.

So there isn't a college player in the draft that can start immediately then? What about Fa? Can we get a shut down guy that way?

Btw, thank you StellarSteelers, that was a great post. Very informative. I don't know that much about the college game like you seem to do so I appreciate the post.

no problem i love talking mock draft!

LES- so what do you do if clark goes?? draft somebody in free agency??
for the sake of argument, if you get a great cover corner like haden, i think
you have to put him in there in the place of gay, even if he is a rookie... agree??
