Default Tabata with a hit off of Strasburg

The "Phenom" known as Steven Strasburg made his debut tonight and Tabata got some cracks at him. Didn't strike out from what I know but did get a kit off of him. Chase D'Arnaud faced Strasburg and grounded into a DP...

It won't be long before Tabata is seeing the grass at PNC. He has that poise of a more vet type player. Very Cutch like. Injuries have held him back so far. Half the season MAX at Indy (barring injuries) this year

Tabata was the first hitter to face Strasburg in a pro AB. He battled him pretty hard the first time around, fouling off a few and working a full count before grounding out on the 8th pitch. Strasburg then rolled through the next 8 with a single and a walk, but erased both on double plays before Tabata came up again in the 4th and singled. I was kind of hoping he'd be awful his first time out.

This guy reminds me a lot of mark prior. I predict a similar fate for this kid.

    3.1 IP
    2 hits,
    1 bb,
    2 K

Didn't let in any runs but wasn't totally dominant. Going to be a good pitcher for sure however.

Nice to see ya here Polec.... tocchet!

Tabata and D'Arnaud got a chance to face long time Yankees top prospect Ian Kennedy today. Tabata went 0-2 with a strikeout against him, D'Arnaud singled and reached on an error.

They have stats on all the Pirates in Fall/Winter leagues at the official site:
    http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/org.jsp?id=pit

The other AFL hitters (D'Arnaud and Friday) aren't doing so great. Tabata is very impressive thus far, though.

Veal's been good, but only has 5 IP. 2 H, 1 R, 5 K, 0 BB. Moskos has put up mediocre numbers in 6 IP, but got this scouting report:

Daniel Moskos struggling to get it over 90 at the AFL with no command, and his delivery is still bad too.
Not a ton of note elsewhere. Robinzon Diaz has hit well in the Dominican, and Gorkys Hernandez has been getting good reviews in Venezuela. Not sure how great the competition is.

Not what I wanted to hear JNN...can't you make it look better? LOL.

Veal may only have 5.1 IP...but the big thing was to cut down the BB and currently he has none, which is great.

Moskos is whatever...he was a bad pick and might not turn out to be anything but a career minor leaguer/long-relief...but that's what we get...im writing him OFF until he shows otherwise...then maybe I'll consider him a prospect.

Im really upset with Friday's progression. I really think/thought he would be challenging for a MLB spot this coming spring, but injuries etc. have made it so that I dont know if he'll even compete for a spot NEXT spring (meaning 2011).

Tabata went DEEP to the opposite field tonight. Over 400 ft. to right center. It's definitely in there, he just has to learn how to use it.

It'd be nice if he developed corner outfield power.

Tabata had a killing in that game. 3 for 6 with 6 rbi's with a double to go with that Home Run. The guy just hits. Like you said, the power is there. I wonder if the injury time off has sort of hurt his power game progression. for instance. He gets injured and then comes back and is mroe focused on the timing and swing and putting balls into play rather than the power. If he can remain healthy this year, I wouldn't be surprised if more power shows up
