    Default Kovalchuk

I was reading the different trade scenerios for kovalchuk on espn and believe it or not the pens had the easiest one. While other teams had to trade 3-4 players plus a draft pick the penguins only had two. Staal and Kunitz...

And a first round pick probably.

That would be fine and all, but it just wouldn't solve our problems I dont think. We still need to sign Gonchar...and in a year or more Guerin will likely be gone...and getting Kovalchuk to play with Malkin gives us THREE hugely paid players and not even two full lines. I'd love to have him here...but I just dont think it makes much sense for us.

    Not a chance.
ďItís a game of emotion, itís a game of hard work.
Itís a game of passion, Kovalchuk, what he did the other day Ė thereís not one guy who was close to doing something. Maybe Maxime Talbot at the end with one second left. Hes about 5ft8 pfft"

As much as I rag on Staal, There is no chance in hell I would trade him for a rental player that has no chance whatsoever of re-signing with the team.
The only player in the NHL more overpaid than MAF is Jordan Staal

I wouldnt deal Staal at this point he has been one of our most consistant players this year imo. Without the 3rd line and PK thing look a lot worse. That would be sweet to have Kov on the Pens but it doesnt really make sense for this team. Not getting my hopes up.

    11 million per year?

Seriously, there is no way he would or should ever get that from the Pens since he's not better or worth mroe than sid and Geno who make $8.7

now... if we're talking about value in regards to the Pens... you trade Staal and Kunitz and you've just opened up $7.6 million per year. Kovalchuk is attractive. gives us a true scorer and a righty with offensive skill ... still... even if the intentions are to retain Kovalchuk, we saw what happened 2 years ago with Hossa.

Unless Gonchar brings his price down... he's gone. time for everyne to start accepting this. an injury prone 35 year old defenseman isn't worth a long term contract at $5 million per. If he weren't injury prone, that would be different, but gonchar has now become an injury liability and you cann't have any injury liabilty like that on your team that is as dependent upon.

Time for Ray to start rethinking and reconstructing this defense a little bit. Trade deadline would be a nice place to start

Along that line of thinking, we could trade Malkin for him straight up, but with the difference in age, I don't know. For this year, it would be an improvement. And we could re-sign him. Either Crosby or Malkin would have to go.
