Default Pedro Alvarez Sheds 10 lbs.

I got this texted to me by a buddy, said he saw it on Pedro's twitter page?? Not sure if it's Pedro's cause he referred to it as "his" which could mean anyone in the wold of texting.

That's a pretty intriguing feat. As long as he lost 10 and added muscle.

A slimmer Pedro should be a more agile and quicker Pedro which "should" help out his defense, but if it takes away from his power, then **** it, put the 10 lbs. back on and give me the Aramis Ramirez type defense and power that he was projecting before the weight loss.

Still, losing 10 lbs, should bring him down to about 225 lbs. for a 6'3" player. That's still pretty beefy

Sounds like he is looking to make the roster out of camp. At least he is showing he worked hard this offseason and is looking to make an impact.

Sounds just right for a 1st or 3rd baseman.

If he's hit the weights 225 is fine for 6-3.

There's no way in hell that he makes the team out of camp. I'd be extremely ****ed with management for that rush job. It's good to see a guy like Pedro showing that type of commitment and work in the offseason.

He's a big kid for sure, but he's not Prince Fielder big . Garrett Jones is like 6'4" 245 for comparisons sake and I think Jones is a pretty much right on size

He definitely wont make the roster out of camp...even if he did prove, somehow, that he was ready. They would send him down for a little bit of time so that his ML clock doesn't start. At least I think that would be the process.

Agreed he shouldn't be up here to start the season. After all, he only has one season in the minors. Pedro needs a couple hundred PA's in AAA. No reason to bring him up this early in the season to start his clock. By July, I certainly hope he's ready.

There probably is some value in throwing a player to the wolves and let him take his lumps...like what happened with other successful player...but only after delaying his clock.

Pedro is going to get his lumps soon enough. I won't be surprised if he starts off AAA struggling a bit like he has at the start of every level he has been promoted to thusfar...

If you don't know my feelings on "spring training competition", I don't believe it's good for **** and thusfor, how Pedro looks in spring Training is completely irrelevant IMO. Some AAA time is far better and telling as far as evaluating than against half bit "practice games" competition in Spring Training.

I think the true key with Pedro for him to get called up is going to be his defense. I think his bat is Major League ready even if it takes adjustment time initially, but I think they will want to make sure that his defense is at least Aramis Ramirez MLB ready. With the recent weight loss, I think Pedro mentally is ready to take the next step with his defensive game.
