Raiders defensive end Greg Ellis is the latest to sound off on the team's ineptitude.

Echoing criticism by teammates and opponents, Ellis on Thursday said the Raiders are "the laughingstock of the NFL.

The 1-4 Raiders lost 44-7 to the Giants last week, and New York LB Antonio Pierce said Oakland players weren't even trying. A despondent Raiders DE Richard Seymour said after the game the Giants could run any play they wanted to.

Ellis agreed (via the San Francisco Chronicle):

"The mood we're going to be in or should be in, right now we're kind of the laughingstock of the NFL," Ellis said Thursday. "This isn't anything new. Teams have been that way before. New England wasn't always winning Super Bowls and Dallas wasn't always the team they are. So, it goes in cycles. When you're in that down cycle, you got to fight and claw to get back out of it and that's what we're doing here right now in Oakland."

Will the Raiders be able to claw out of the hole, however? They have scored just 49 points, second-worst in the league. And Pierce said last week playing them "felt like a scrimmage." -- Sean Leahy

They didn't even have to play a down this year for Ellis to tell me the obvious. When you trade your number 1 pick for a 30 year old defensive lineman with one year remaining on his contract it's official you are the laughingstock of the league.

Hey, don't pay too much mind to me guys. I have lived in the bay area for 36 years. I am just loving every minute of the Raiders futility. MAy they suck for another 30 years!
