The Wilkes Barre-Scranton roster is putting up some serious numbers this season. Sure, they are performing well enough on the ice, but the numbers I am referring too are adding up on the mileage logs.

The Penguins have again re-called Nick Johnson from their AHL affiliate. It is pretty clear that they want these guys playing as much as possible. It is also clear that the salary cap has come into play here. It is a lot cheaper to send these guys to the American League during lay offs in the schedule so that they aren't collecting NHL money.

The team has also recalled Mark Letestu. I would expect both players to be in the line-up tomorrow when the Penguins face-off against the Detroit Red Wings.

More on tomorrow's line-up as it gets closer. However, it is worth noting that Max Talbot missed practice this morning.

    Here is the official release:

PENGUINS RECALL NICK JOHNSON, MARK LETESTU

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forwards Nick Johnson and Mark Letestu from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Johnson, 24, has played four games for Pittsburgh this season, posting two points (1G-1A). He made his NHL debut and scored his first career goal against the Washington Capitals Jan. 21.

Johnson (6-foot-2, 202 pounds) is in his second full season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and ranks sixth on the club with 23 points (7G-16A) in 28 contests.

Letestu, 24, has made three appearances for Pittsburgh this year. He made his NHL debut in the Penguins’ 6-5 overtime victory against the Boston Bruins.

Letestu (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s leading goal scorer with 16 tallies in 36 games on the season, and ranks second on the club with 39 points. He also boasts a team-best (tied) plus-12 rating.

    at least it's not conner

The way I udnerstand this, when a vet is "out for injuries" and can't play--on paper, not for real--his salary doesn't coutn gaainst the cap.

When he is replaced by a WB player, the "kid's" lower salary does, which permits the Pens organization to "save" (again, on paper) the difference, which is why these guys go up and down so fast.

The Goddard inujury might keep someone up for a while, though..

I thought they both looked good. Of course I think Johnson has looked good the whole time.

Letestu had and created a couple of really good chances.

Only if it's shown that the Pens NEED an enforcer/fighter type. If not, they aren't bringing up Brookbank.

As a whole this has been one of the softer seasons fighting wise that I can remember
