    Default Bench/Bullpen

I think it was in the PG Q and A section. What do you guys think about going with a 6 man bullpen instead of 7? I wouldn't mind it at all. I think the better rotation make it possible. I would at least try it early in the year when there are more off days.

Its a double edged sword. If we are getting hammered on a semi-regular basis like the end of last year, it will suck.

The question is whether the goal of 2010 is to win as many games as possible this season or if it to set things up for what will potentially be a more competitive 2011 team.

Personally I'd like to see them set up for 2011. The Pirates aren't winning 82 games this year. They might as well do something productive long-term. That's why I'm all for the Clement experiment at 1B. Let's find out now when wins and losses don't really matter.

If a 6-man bench makes it easier to keep Raynor and add to the talent pool for next year, I say do it. Especially given how the bullpen is currently constructed. We certainly don't need to save Dotel or Donnelly's arms for the future.

I would think a 6 man bullpen is definitely in the cards this year for a number of reasons….some which have already been mentioned.

Like not having to carry a Rule 5 pitcher all season?

Just my opinion from a very non scientific fan of the game....:

I ****IN ALWAYS HATED a 12 man pitching staff!!!!! ESPECIALLY on this BBUCCOO Lumber Deficient team of ours!!!! I'm old school (physically and mentally) and remember the days of a 10 MAN pitching staff.....then we needed 11....then 12.....**** that....get another BAT on the bench and move a pitcher up from Indy if needed on occasion!!!
