    Montgomery to coach WRs
    2-16-2010

PITTSBURGH ─ The Steelers filled the lone remaining vacancy on their coaching staff today when they hired Scottie Montgomery as wide receivers coach. Montgomery joins the Steelers after coaching wide receivers at his alma mater Duke from 2006-09.

Montgomery, 31, played wide receiver in the NFL with the Denver Broncos (2000-02) after originally signing with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted rookie in 2000. He enjoyed a college career at Duke where he finished among the school’s all-time leading receivers.

Under Montgomery’s tutelage, Duke had three receivers with more than 50 receptions and 600 receiving yards in 2009. Duke’s passing attack gained 3,660 yards (305.0 avg.) and accounted for 24 touchdowns last season.

A native of Cleveland County, North Carolina, Montgomery is one of just five two-time MVPs in Duke history. He currently ranks second on the Blue Devils’ all-time list in career receptions (171), fourth in receiving yards (2,379), and is one of only three players to lead the program in receiving in three straight seasons (1997-99). Montgomery is one of only two Duke receivers to post three straight seasons with at least 50 receptions and 600 receiving yards.

... I almost said; "He probably did while in college."... But ACC v SEC means they never played...

Oh! ****ing brother. Was this Scottie character the most qualified person out there? We had to look to Duke for our wide reciever coach?

**** you Tomlin and the rule you rode in on.

.... Simmer down brother... Just because he doesn't have a boatload of experience doesn't mean he's not up to the job.... Just my opinion...

... I haven't looked it up, but I would venture to guess that most coaches taking their first position in the NFL as a WRs coach probably don't have much collegiate/coaching experience either.... But like I said, I haven't looked it up so am shooting from the hip on this one.

LV Guy--Does your post mean that Montgomery--whom I've never seen--is shhhhhh
    "black?"

OMG, what's our neighborhood coming to?

(BTW. I love your sig pix. You and "Bleedn" go right to the "Sig Pix Photo Hall of Fame," as far as I am concerned!

Guy seems pretty intriguing. At least (unlike Arians and Ligashesky and Zierlein) this guy has had some success, good success...

Coaches start in college circuits and get promoted. I don't mind getting WR coaches from the college ranks, I'm just opposed to HC's, DC's and OC's coming straight from college.

Thjis guy and the OL hire I like

I can't simmer down I am still ****ed about last year. Why is it everytime we need to replace an assistant there is a big question mark over the hire?

Why would Tomlin hire a guy who had little to no success in the NFL as a player? Wouldn't you think if he was any good at what he does he would have been drafted out of college and he would have played longer then 2 to 3years in the league? I find it hard to believe the wide receiver coach at Texas Texh or Boise State to name a few would have no interest coming to the NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Let me guess when we eventually fire Arians this is going to be our new OC .

Good players don't nessacerily make the best coaches. Alot of times the game comes so easy to good players that they don't study and put in the time to study like a lesser player that has to work extra hard to make the most of his ability.
