Pitt leaps in rankings after big win over Villanova
    Monday, February 22, 2010
    By Ray Fittipaldo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pitt's Gary McGhee blocks a shot by Villanova's Reggie Redding in the second half of Sunday's game. Pitt won 70-65.

Pitt moved up seven spots to No. 12 in the new Associated Press poll that was released today. The Panthers (21-6, 10-4) have won five consecutive games, including a win against Villanova Sunday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center.

West Virginia remained in the top 10 at No. 8. There are five Big East teams among the top 12. Syracuse is No. 4, Villanova No. 7 and Georgetown No. 11.

Kansas remained the top team in the poll with 61 of the 65 first-place votes. No. 2 Kentucky holds the other four first-place votes.

The last time they rode this high they took a dump. I still say they're a top 15 team only, and that's not meant to be demeaning. They still need some seasoning.

Hopefully, it won't go to their head like it may have the last time. Time to hitch up their britches and win out the regular season, then we'll see.

It's definitely gonna be an interesting finish to the season... While I think they're a lock for the big dance, they still will have to perform well in the conference tourney for a better seeding position in it.
