    Default Mawae?

Wonder if trying to sign Kevin Mawae for a season or two would be a bad idea? Even at his age he would probably be an upgrade over Hartwig. Just a thought.....

How about Thomas Jones. He looked pretty solid this past season. Would be an upgrade over FWP as a backup or as another back to share carries. Not trying to be one of those 'sign everyone that has been released' type of guy...just think those two I mention in this thread could be had for cheap (maybe) and would be upgrades over who we currently or did have in 2009 season.

Jones could be done in New York?
    The News
Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News suggests that the Jets may cut Thomas Jones if Leon Washington proves to be healthy following his recovery from leg surgery.
    Our View
Jones bruised his way to 1,402 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns over 16 games with New York in 2009, but he will turn 32 in August and is due a $3MM roster bonus and a $2.8MM salary for 2010. Shonn Greene also flashed nice potential as a rookie, which could also factor into the Jets' decision regarding Jones.

Man, again I will toss-out the "bang for the buck" line, and the fact that we have historically not gone this route...

But no, I would not mind him in our colors & locker room next season one bit...

... BTW, if names are gonna be tossed around, Owen Schmitt has been released from Seattle.... He could be the answer at the FB position if the stories were true about Arians being told to return to the run game more.

    ... Just sayin'....

Can't afford Jones as a part time player...not gonna happen here. Wouldn't mind having him, but he isn't going to be cheap. Our best bet to backup Mendy....Redman. He will run like the devil, trying to prove he is under valued.....and he is very affordable.

Redman should be our short yardage back. He isn't good enough to be the type of RB we need. We need two backs that are interchangeable in the run game and in the passing game as a dump off or even on designed pass plays to them.

Example of what we need to be doing can be seen in the Saints offense. Their stable of backs, that type of RB, is what we need to be shooting for. A RB that Ben can dump off to when he sees the blitz coming.

Would like to see what he could do to help the running game. He's one of the players that I call "all day", because, he puts forth 100% effort on every play until the whistle blows. You know you've played against him after a game.

Owen Schmitt would definately be on my radar since the front office threw the mandate down that the running game needs improved. I imagine he would be a solid special teamer as well.

Did we get to see enough from him to form this opinion?

Hopefully they will listen to Rooney and we will be looking for RB's to run the ball more consistently than to dump passes off to. The RB needs to be able block and pick up the blitz.

I am very biased, but Owen Schmitt was born to be a Steeler. Ok I am very biased...

When I posted that comment about him, I thought you'd like it....

Redman doesn't have the wheels we need. Block & pick up the blitz in our old offense, not in the one I think we should run. Pretty much the Saints offense. The missing component is our shorter, underneath passing game.

Draft Dorin Dickerson in the 6th or 7th round to be our next FB, with hands!

Most teams using that offense and game plan use their starter in those situations...as the receiver out of the backfield. Look out for Baltimore again next year, their RB killed us sneaking out of the backfield for those short passes...Farrior couldn't defend him.

Not sure if Mendy can fill that bill?
