Default Buccigross on Fleury's Game 7 Save

"Fleury: Back-to-back Stanley Cup appearances. He has great lateral movement and he's fearless. His Game 7 Stanley Cup save on Nicklas Lidstrom is, for my money, within the top three of all-time NHL saves. It's the Bobby Orr picture for goalies. Orr's flying through the air picture is the most poetic hockey picture of all time because of his flight, expression and added aura of the black-and-white picture. But the Bruins would have won the Stanley Cup anyway. It was a sweep. Fleury's moment was a buzzer-beating save in a Game 7 on the road against an all-time great."

I have a tough time telling if that was a great save or if Fleury could've easily made it without the "dive". It looks great on video however

I think he might have been able to make it without the dive...but you're right...the made for video save does look awesome.

And he's played well so far this year too...which is a good sign for the Pens.

Definitely has looked very good... now if we can stay out of the **** penalty box he might have an easier time out there. Pens have to cut down on the PIM's

I don't know, I think he was just trying to do whatever he could to keep that puck out of the net. Adams dove for it too.

OH definitely. I'm not saying he should never have done that. At that point in that game, you're going to do whatever the first reaction is and that first reaction in that case is pretty much get your entire body in front of that little piece of vulcanized rubber

I just meant that the save itself, in normal situations, he probably doesn't dive for that, it's more a blocker stop than anything

He's always had a flare for the dramatic.

All goalies do. I love when a simple glove save turns into this dramatic swipe where they make the snag and whip the glove real quick. Seriously? You caught a puck

it was a pretty incredible range of emotion. from oh **** oh ****, to its over, we actually beat the freaking red wings. as far as the dive, i suppose trying to smother the puck as much as possible. looking back i am glad there was no face off.

I don't believe any thought was put into it. Pure instinct to throw whatever he could (in this case his entire body) in the way of the puck. A chest is bigger than a blocker...

    OoooOO got the tinglies

I am a huge MAF fan but he makes ya want to go out and shoot something with am automatic weapon sometimes. I bet he does seem like an elite goal tender to someone who doesn't follow him all season long. Well he is elite, you know what I mean tho?

Most likely that was it. Just pure instincts, do whatever it takes, first thing to comes to mind at that point.

Like I said, it looks cool on video, I don't blame MAF for doing it. I just wonder if the it looks cooler or bigger than the save actually was. Not meaning it wasn't important, just that had he not dove for it, would it have been an easily stoppable/blockable shot
