    Default Mendenhall vs. Slow Willie

So is this debate over? Mendenhall is the Steelers starting RB at this point, correct? Parker looked like he made two of the most unathletic plays ever today. That catch/stumble/run was ridiculous. Ben throws it, Parker stops, jumps up to catch it and it hits him in his hip, then he turns and stumbles with nobody around and finally gathers himself and runs for like 3 yards. On the next play he fumbles.

I know Mendenhall fumbled as well but I will chalk that up to him being stupid with the football thinking he was down even though he was laying on top of the defender and the ref hadn't blown the whistle. Parker just straight up looked like a drunk that fell off a bar stool and landed in an NFL game.

I think the catch/stumble was due to his "specially designed hard-fiberglass" shoes by Nike... No flexibility so as to protect the toe.... But sorta like walking in ski boots.

I'm not ready to crown Mendy the starter just yet... I say platoon them alot over the balance of the season and get use out of both of them. Hell, it's better to have semi-fresh backs than a tired one going down the stretch.... I think even Parker knows his days are numbered here in Pgh, so why not let him "play hard" for a contract with someone next season, and gain the rewards from it?.... Assuming that can happen.

Promblem with that is SWP hasn't shown us dick so far this year. What makes you think he will down the stretch?I think he's on the downward slope of his career.Lets go with Mendy and Moore. At least those guys make more of their opportunities.

Agree with Les here. Parker just doesn't have much left in the tank. I won't be all that sad to see Willie move on, and hopefully we draft a RB the mold of Ray Rice or Chris Johnson that is a stout runner and great pass catcher somewhere between rounds 2 though 5.

... I just think we'll need the complete stable to be productive against the teams upcoming on the schedule.... But I could be wrong...

The way that SWP is playing,he'd be an addition by subtraction.

I wouldn't go that far.One play in paticular,Parker lost about 3 yards,he was getting tackled before he even made a step.

I like watching the airshow but we better get the running game on track with someone. If there is not a decent running game to keep the defense honest Ben will be hurt by the end of the season.

Yeah, but how many times has SWP fallen down without contact or has had a hole the size of Texas only to run into a tackler.IMO,he's a liability.

He's not an everydown back for sure, but he still has value.

Most teams now employ RB by committee. I think the Steelers would be best served doing the same. Give Mendenhall 75% of the work WP can get his change of pace carries, and Moore is excellent in his 3rd down role.

I appreciate all that Willie has done for us in the past and always pulled for him as I like the underdog.

But I think Rashard is a better all around back. Willie has clearly been going downhill for awhile. But even the leading the league in rushing yards Parker wasn't as good of an all around back as Rashard is. Rashard blocks better, catches better and hits the holes better.

I personally wouldn't break it up 3 series to one. I would use Willie as a breather for Rashard, but that's just me.

I also believe if Willie's agent had been honest with him he would have told him his days were numbered when they drafted a RB in the first round. Because even if Rashard didn't work out, it meant the team was looking to improve the position.
