Default Kevin Vogel"Hart" is at it again

53 pitches to get five outs...Kerrigan mercifully takes him out

Hart getting worse as ST goes on isn't good. I hope they kill this experiment but you know there's pride somewhere in there

Doesn't say much about Detroit that the opposing pitcher gives up 6 BB's and they only have 1 run to show for it

    "VogelHart" - I like it.

He had the fifth starter spot handed to him on a platter. According to Dejan the job was still his as recently as his last poor start. Its almost unthinkable that Hart will go north as the fifth starter now.

    You're up Mr. Mcutchen...

A quote from DK's blog before today's game....."This could mean nothing, but Kevin Hart is having a wild warmup for the ages. All over the place."

I don't know if it's sad sad or sad funny but it's pretty obvious that Hart is struggling badly with the new windup. It's not like he had good control with his old windup.

Hart's "Livelier" stuff is definitely alive outside of the strike zone

    From Dejan today..

"Kevin Hart is bright, sharp, determined and, in the athletic sense, has an outstanding arm with the stuff for four legitimate major league pitches, not the least of which is an effortless 96-mph fastball.

He might be having trouble carrying his bullpen delivery onto the mound, as he acknowledged yesterday, partly because of a lack of confidence in that delivery in a game situation. But neither his words nor anything else about his demeanor suggested a broader lack of confidence. He was adamant that the fastball and sinker both have better life through his new delivery than his old one, and he was equally adamant that he feels he belongs in the majors.

Now, all that and five cents will get you a nickle if you don't put the ball over the plate.

But know that, from the best of what I have been able to gather, from Hart and from many others doing the evaluating, this is no head case. Hart's view and that of the Pirates is that he needs to repeat his delivery, repeat it with confidence and repeat it in critical situations. That will have to start with fastball command and go from there. And Hart's view and that of the Pirates is that he will get there sooner rather than later.

We will see if Hart and the Pirates are right.

Let me say this, too: Teams that make decisions based on the first three starts of spring training are the type that end up tabbing Ron Villone to start opening day. I get the sense that readers are in a rush to have management anoint Daniel McCutchen as the fifth starter, but the schedule clearly illustrates there is no rush: The Pirates have 2 1/2 weeks until they face the Dodgers, and neither Hart nor McCutchen has pitched the equivalent of a full game yet this spring."

This is exactly why he needs to go to Indy if he can't turn it around in the next 2 1/2 weeks. He can start every 5th day, work on his command and build his confidence all in low leverage situations.

My thoughts exactly...right now his confidence is only going to get WORSE if he continues to tank like this...he looks terrible!

X2. Let him work on this in Indy. The way they are set up they are supposed to be teaching the same **** on each level. So if Kerrigan has in mind what Hart needs to do to get where he needs to go, I am sure that info can be passed on to the AAA pitching coach. Plus, I remember last year when the Pirates had a break that Kerrigan went out to Indy to see Gorzo and how he was doing down there.

If it is just a matter of getting a consistent delivery, I agree that there's no reason to keep him up if he's still struggling this bad by the end of spring training. I also agree with DK that you can't make decisions this early in ST
