Default Disturbing fact if Pens/Devils meet in playoffs

Here is a disturbing fact if the Pens meet the Devils in the playoffs:

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, four teams that swept a season series of six or more games from an opponent met that opponent in the playoffs that year. Each time, the team that earned the sweep won the playoff series. The most recent was Montreal against Boston in 2008.

Well, all trends end sooner or later.

What was the trend about losing in the final and then going back...and then facing the same team for a second year in a row>

About as good as being the 6th seed and winning the Super Bowl.

I think the Penguins and Steelers the past couple years have pretty much shown that "trends" can easily end especially in modern sports with Salary Caps Anything can happen.

The good news is that because we are in the same division as the devils, the best the 2nd place finisher in the division can do is the 4th seed, which means that unless the 3rd seed gets upset, we would not play the devils until the conference finals.

Yup. As it stands now we'd play Ottawa for the 3rd time in 4 seasons to open up the playoffs. That can all change of course. Ottawa, Montreal, Philadelphia are all 1-2 points of each other

I think a more disturbing fact is the fact that the Penguins do not have a shutout this year, while they have been shutout 5 times.

FYI: Ty Conklin (StL) has 3 shutouts, Mathieu Garon (CBJ) has 2 and Johan Hedberg (ATL) has 1. .....Ray Emory (PHI) has 3!!!

The freakin' Devils definitely have our number... Could we turn it around in the playoffs against them?... Yes... Is that probable at all?... No...

... Hopefully someone else knocks them out before we would have to face them. It's a ****ty attitude to take, but it's what I'm hoping for.

It's the only attitude. I don't want to see them in the playoffs either.

Another adage is continuing to do the same things and expecting a different result. Hopefully, that won't be the case.

The best scenario is that the Pens grab the division. If this happens, and Buffalo then wins their first round, it would guarantee that NJ and the Caps face one another in the 2nd.

I kinda like the thought of Crosby facing Miller again in the 2nd round...then having to match up against Overchicken in the conference finals. Could be a fun ride, again this year.

Of course, I wouldn't be shocked in NJ gets ousted in the 1st round again, either.

Yup. N.J. doesn't seem as dominant against the rest of the league as they are against us.

I don't get it either. It's like the Pens lose their minds against the Devils and all hockey sense tends to disappear
