    Willie Parker still waits
Posted by Mike Florio on March 17, 2010

Not long ago, Willie Parker was regarded as one of the best young tailbacks in the NFL. But then, late in the 2007 season, he broke a leg against the Rams, and he really hasn't been the same since.

In 2008, injuries limited Parker to 11 games, and he rushed for under 800 yards for the first time since his rookie year of 2004. Last year, he lost his starting job after three games -- and he never started again.

One of the younger free-agent tailbacks on the market, Parker has generated little interest in free agency. He visited the Redskins, who later signed Larry Johnson.

Now, he'll visiting the team against which his career became derailed more than two years ago: the Rams. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the visit will occur on Thursday and Friday.

In St. Louis, Parker would serve as a backup to Steve Jackson. And this suggests that Parker has given up on any shot at being the top dog in 2010, or beyond.

I hope someone snags him up so we don't. Willie was good when his wheels weren't busted. But, they busted!

    100% in agreement.....

I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, and blamed the OC and the playcalling, but I think that arguement is no longer founded... He had a nice run, but now it's over, and it's time to unload him and let him find "greener pastures" if able....

Thanx for the effort Willie. I appreciated what you did. But it's time to go...

yeah man. I mean really, the ONLY reason Willie Parker became an NFL running back is because he was fast as lightning and could juke one guy and take it to the house. After multiple leg injuries though, I think his ability to kick it into high gear in .01 seconds is gone. So, that one NFL caliber quality that he did have is gone. He is a shadow of his former self. Time to move on.

For the type of offense we have we need a complete back, which means ability to run with power, run with speed, AND catch the ball WELL out of the backfield. Willie Parker had to be standing still to catch instead of being a Kevin Faulk type RB that catches the ball while still in motion. I mean really, a footrace between a RB and a LB to get out and cover that RB should be a no brainer.

Even with "broken wheels" I'd take him over Mendenhall any day of the week. If Willie goes, he'll need to be replaced by someone better, IMO

Willie's had his day in Pittsburgh its time to bow out and go to a high offence team in the NFC as a back up. Ive seen too many 3 and outs because of Willie and his inability to break a tackle.

He can't catch a ball as well as Moore or hasn't the power to plough through for 2 or 3 yards in the red zone.

Maybe if Arians had the smarts to use him to his abilities last year things might be different now.

I can't believe he would settle as a back up on a losing team...hell he could've stayed here as a backup...and maybe get another ring.

That is just crazy talk. You would seriously take Willie Parker over Mendenhall?

    Huh?

I'm probably the only remaining Willie Parker fan and I don't believe that. I would like to have him on the team as the backup though.

    Exactly
However, its not going to happen unless WP is still available after the draft.

We could take a RB from the 5th round on that would bring to the table what Willie Parker does at this point. Lots of teams need backup RB's but you don't see many bringing him in for visits.

St Louis wants him! And who wouldn't want to play for one of the worst teams in the NFL behind a horrible line with a possible rookie QB in the same stadium that you broke your leg?

Does anyone have Dookie's number avaliable?
