    Default Randle-El Part 2

Here's a guy that the Steelers should be considering. He could learn from Randle El and step right in in a couple of years.

Joe Webb impressive at UAB Pro Day workout

UAB’s Joe Webb put on quite a show Thursday at the Blazers’ Pro Day held at Legion Field.

In fact, Webb’s performance bettered the top marks in several categories from the recent NFL Combine held in Indianapolis.

Webb, a record-setting All-Conference USA quarterback at UAB who has been projected as a wide receiver in the NFL, was officially measured at 6-3, 226 pounds by the pro scouts in attendance.

Webb’s distance in the broad jump and his time recorded in the 20-yard shuttle were better than the top performances in the combines in those two drills.

Not among the invitees for the combine last month, Webb felt like he had something to show on Thursday.

“I felt like I had something to prove and I wanted to come out here and show what I could do,” said Webb. “I’ve been working really hard and I am happy with how things turned out today.”

Webb was measured at 11-5 1/2 in the broad jump, compared to the top combine effort of 11-0 by Virginia cornerback Chris Cook.

Webb’s shuttle time of 3.91 bested the No. 1 time clocked at the combine, a 4.03 registered by Michigan State wide receiver Blair White.

Webb also stood out with his performances in the bench press, vertical jump and 40-yard dash.

Webb recorded 21 bench reps (225 pounds), better than any wide receiver at the combine.

The Birmingham native was measured at 42 1/2 inches on his vertical jump which bettered the top jump of any wide receiver in Indianapolis. Louisville WR Scott Long had a 41 1/2 at the combine. Overall, Webb’s measurement would have been second only to Pittsburgh tight end Dorin Dickerson who jumped 43 1/2.

Webb’s 40 time was also superb as he was clocked at 4.45 and then at 4.43 in his two sprints. That time would have been fifth-best among receivers at the combine. However, the time is more impressive considering Webb’s size is considerably larger than the receivers clocking faster times. The best time (4.28) at the combine was registered by 5-9, 186-pound Jacoby Ford of Clemson.

“The numbers Joe put up today are very impressive, no matter who you are or where you are,” UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. “When you consider he’s 6-4 and 225 pounds, it shows how special of an athlete Joe is.”

Here is a breakdown of Joe Webb’s Pro Day performances:

Bench Press (reps of 225 pounds) – 21 (best by a WR at combine was 20)
    Vertical Jump – 42 1/2 (best by a WR at combine was 41 1/2)
Broad Jump – 11 1/2 (best for any player at combine was 11)
20-Yard Shuttle – 3.91 (best for any player at combine was 4.03)
40-Yard Dash – 4.43 (among WRs at combine, Webb’s time would be 5th fastest)

Maybe......but I think one gimmick guy is probably enough.

I'd rather have the Michigan State receiver, Blair White, to study under Ward.

Isn`t Grishm studying under Ward, cause they are the exact same body type.
