Default Letang signed to 4 year extension

This was inevitable, especially with the very real possibility that Gonch will not be here next year. I know that Lecoffey's offensive numbers haven't been where they need to be this year, but he has improved his defensive game leaps and bounds. Great move.

I'm sooo happy they signed him long term, but that is an almost definite that Sarge will not be back next year.

I'm curious to see what he got. I'm guessing that he should be around the cap hit of Goligoski's, slightly more due to NHL time. $2-$2.5 million?

With Eaton off the books next year (FINALLY) and Gonchar off the books, Pens likely resigning Leopold because he can be had for under a $1 million... we've got some money and options for defense this offseason

Well I dont think Eaton is a bad player but 2 mill is a little exspensive but we will need his replacement so that is where Leopold will come in.

Sign a cheap 7th Dman and be in good shape.

I never thought Gonchar was going to be back with us next year. He will not take one or 2 year cap friendly deals like Billy G has for us. He know a team like the LA Kings or Blue Jackets will pay hime alot more than we can. His 5 mill cap hit can be divided up into Eaton and Leopold so it is like getting 2 D man for the price of one.

I do hope that the Pen`s trade Gonchar`s rights and get a draft pick for him at least.

I heard 3.5 for 4 years. No link. This probably seals the deal for Gonchar.

I like the signing, but if he's going to replace Gonch, he HAS to step up his offense. He's gotta start hitting the net with his shots, especially on the power play. I'm confident he can.

Eek.... that's overpayment right now for Letang. Appears they are paying him based on future potential, the same concept they used for Staal's albatross. We'll see, Letang is 22, he's nowhere near his peak. Surprised that they didn't try to eat up his UFA years by going with a longer contract.

It'll be interesting to see how a guy like Letang does without Gonchar on the team whose been default reliance for the team in many aspects. Hopefully it helps Letang step up his offensive game. his defensive game will get stronger with time.

Personally I like the signing. Far for both parties.
ďItís a game of emotion, itís a game of hard work.
Itís a game of passion, Kovalchuk, what he did the other day Ė thereís not one guy who was close to doing something. Maybe Maxime Talbot at the end with one second left. Hes about 5ft8 pfft"
