    Default "Turf" At Heinz Field?

With all the talk of the "Winter Classic" being played at Heinz Field this coming January, what are the chances that Rooney and the Steelers organization seriously consider the switch to "turf" instead of frozen dirt late in the season?

For those that are not "into" hockey, the Winter Classic is a game played outdoors in a stadium somewhere... They have played it in several locations, but not with the consideration of an NFL playoff game closely following the event.

... If they do decide to play the Classic at Heinz, the field will be seriously torn-up, and be trashed for any playoff games, if we were to make it that far.

I voted "yes" regardless of any hockey game... Turf would be an improvement that would make the playing surface better throughout the year... We've all seen bad conditions, and it really is avoidable IMO.

I voted yes regardless. The field turf used today is fairly friendly,it's nothing like the rug in T.R.S.

Man, the game played against Miami on November 26, 2007 is a perfect example why they should change.... The game was a 3-0 win by us, but the field was terrible.

... After re-sodding the field, it rained... Alot!...

The money that would be saved from re-sodding the field after numerous Steelers games, Pitt Panthers games, and high school playoff games would quickly be made over and over.... Not to mention a better playing surface for all the games previously mentioned.

It's a no-brainer IMO... But the fact remains, Rooney just doesn't want it, for whatever reason.

"Turf" is a must for as much as Heinz Field gets used for various events. Maybe they could start painting the endzones again too, one Steelers and one Panthers. As of now, that is one ugly surface come December.

I thought the ground in 08 and 09 wasn't that bad after they got rid of that DD stuff. I was watching the AFC championship game again and it held up pretty good.

I voted no. I'm old school in that the elements should be part of the game. The most fun I had playing as a kid was in miserable weather.

I also vote to ban dome stadiums, but that's just me. I lived in St.Louis when they built their dome. Sitting in peanut heaven, relaxing in my cushioned chair, drinking a G&T in shorts while it was snowing outside just didn't feel like football.

I will say that the field used to be something that the Steelers could take advantage of and gave them an edge. However, with the running game we've had recently...its not really working in our favor. I'd rather see us take advantage of it and keep the field the same.

Just another example of how out of touch they are with reality. Build a speed team with speed receivers, smaller speed backs good at receiving, a QB that excells in the spread type offense.......and then have then play in a mud hole going down to the wire and in the playoffs. Good call Rooneys!

    I don't care either way.

I like grass, I would prefer grass 9 times out of 10, but with the WPIAL games and Pitt sharing the stadium, grass isn't the best option. If it were JUST the WPIAL games, Grass would be completely fine but it's tough to carry the load of College as well.

Turf makes sense considering the the games played and such but I don't care much either way. I'll still make fun of the swamp when times comes for it
