    Default Smokey on his way to 1,000

    Steelers WR Holmes on his way to 1,000
    Buzz up!
    By Scott Brown, TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Tuesday, October 20, 2009

    Santonio Holmes is well on his way to accomplishing something that has eluded the Steelers' wide receiver going back to high school: having a 1,000-yard receiving season. The MVP of Super Bowl MVP has 438 yards on 28 catches. If he maintains the pace he has set through the Steelers' six games, Holmes will finish with 1,168 receiving yards.

    "I'm not even focusing on that right now. I've got one touchdown," Holmes said. "I want to score touchdowns as opposed to getting 1,000 yards."

    Holmes' only touchdown came in the Steelers' 13-10 win against the Titans in their season opener.

    Brett Keisel almost had his first interception since high school in the Steelers' 27-14 win against the Browns. The starting defensive end batted a Derek Anderson pass into the air, and he got his hands on the ball but couldn't come up with catch in the second quarter.

    "I didn't even know it was there until I heard the crowd," Keisel said of the batted ball, "and I turned around and it was right there, and I just reached, and it wasn't meant to be."

    The Steelers' run defense will get tested early and often Sunday when the Minnesota Vikings visit Heinz Field for a 1 p.m. game. Adrian Peterson leads the NFL in rushing with 624 yards.

    "He has a very good (offensive) line in front of him so we have to go in there with a single focus of shutting down the run," Steelers defensive tackle Chris Hoke said.

    Troy Edwards - now there's a blast from the past.

    At the rate Ben is throwing the ball around, we could see 3 receivers with 1k yard seasons.

    Heath maybe?

    Heath is on pace for 800-900 yards and 90 something catches.

    Ward=110 for 1500 yards---doubt we'll see that, but it would be awesome
    Wallace= 50 for 800
    Holmes=75 for 1200

    That would put Ben at something like...5000 yards.

    I doubt he gets anything close to that. I think he'll maybe throw 4000 max...but ****.

    'Tone had a nice game last week...he needs to get into the endzone though (for the sake of my FF team)... He's been attracting double teams in almost every passing situation which has opened up Hines and Wallace...It's nice to see that he's blocking downfield and staying in the games! I think his little case of early-season dropsies has passed!

    GO 'TONE!!!

    If he is double covered then Ben is finding the single covered WR or TE.

    He and Fleury seem to be in the same "athletic zone," where nothing rattles them and they seem to oevrcome standard obstacles.

    Don't tell me we can't ride him to the playoffs and SB, with our above average D and runnign game.

    Ben keeps throwing for the most passing yards, Smokey could eclipse 1,000. Problem with Smokey is that he's been inconsistent from game to game. He'll have a good game, then disappear stats wise for a couple. He's killing me in a Fantasy league

    I feel ya Kipper, he needs to get into the endzone for the sake of FF! But in real life, he needs to just keep battling double coverages, catching the ball, and getting our boys into scoring position! Afterall, I'll take a Stillers' win over a FF loss any week!
