Default Possibilities of Dixon leaving for Oregon

I know that everyone's been saying that there is almost no way this is going to happen, but I think that a few things have come out over the past few days that point to there maybe being a better chance of this happening then we would all like to believe.

First, all the big names that people immediately connected the job to, are supposedly out: Few, Izzo, Donovan

Then its reported that Mark Turgeon is staying put at A & M and now Tubby Smith says not only is he happy about being in Minnesota, but he hasn't even been contacted.

Second, Dixon was really evasive when interviewed by Ron Cook on Cooks ****ty radio show yesterday. Not even saying he would be Pitts coach next season, when asked point blank.

Now, I still think that Dixon is just using this talk to get an extension from Pitt, and good for him. But I also believe the possibility of him leaving is greater then its ever been.

Could Dixon be thinking that the move to the Big 10 is inevitable?, and if he's gonna take a step down in league to the big 10, he may as well go home to the west coast, coach in a league where he has friends. A league, that in his mind, is comparable to the big 10 as a BB league. And, oh yeah, get paid huge money to boot.

Here is an article form todays Oregonian i forgot to include

I could swear I saw on ESPN's bottomline last night Oregon offered Tubby the job.

Of course in my drunken state who knows.

There are also "reports" that Dixon has been offered

I mean really, Dixon is a hot commodity in one of the best BB programs over the last 7 years. Tubby Smith is Old and hasn't coached a BB program that's mattered (Kentucky) in a few years.

    Who would you want?

I think this time of year there are always quite a few wild reports... Hell, I just read an article saying that Tom Izzo was offered the job and they (Oregon) offered him the biggest contract in the NCAA...

I just don't think too many of these hold much weight.

IMO, Dixon has always been somewhat "aloof" in interviews concerning specific decisions/moves... It's just the way he is, I think... Besides, I don't believe Dixon has any strong ties to the west coast (as Ben Howland did), and the better challenge would be to remain in the Big East.

    But who knows...

Actually, the possibility of Dixon leaving for anywhere are even. I don't know the man from a hole in the ground, but the man proved that he can coach and recruit. Any AD who isn't looking and making offers should be fired.

The only thing one can hold against him is a lack of a Final Four berth. Personally, I think that will be overcome in a year or two or three. He just hasn't had the one player that will put them over the precipice.

Do college extensions REALLY mean all that much? Contracts are a joke anymore.

That said - glad he is staying.
