    Default Altoona Lineup

"C - Kris Watts, Hector Gimenez
    1B - Matt Hague
    2B - Josh Harrison
    SS - Chase D'Arnaud
    3B - Jordy Mercer
    OF - Miles Durham
    OF - Gorkys Hernandez
    OF - Alex Presley

Bench - Jose De Los Santos, Shelby Ford, Jim Negrych

    SP - Tim Alderson
    SP - Michael Crotta
    SP - Jared Hughes
    SP - Rudy Owens
    SP - Justin Wilson

    RP - Michael Dubee
    RP - Derek Hankins
    RP - Dustin Molleken
    RP - Daniel Moskos
    RP - Jeff Sues
    RP - Ronald Uviedo
    RP - Tony Watson

A few surprises here. First, the omission of Jeff Locke from the list suggests he will start the 2010 season back in Bradenton. That makes some sense, as Locke didn't have the best 2009 season, although he did well in his time in Lynchburg when I wasn't in attendance.

Tony Watson listed as a reliever is a surprise. Maybe he'll be piggybacking with Crotta or Hughes, or maybe they're just trying to speed up his path to the majors. That seems to be the case with Uviedo and Moskos, both of whom will be moving to the bullpen. I expected Moskos to move up to AAA after fairly good numbers at the AA level, but it looks like he'll return to the bullpen at this level. With good performances, both Moskos and Uviedo could challenge for a spot in the majors later in the off-season.

Shelby Ford starting the year on the bench doesn't speak well for his future. He was the second baseman of the future heading in to last year, and now looks more like organizational depth. Even though he struggled in AAA, then again in his demotion to AA, I expected him to return to AAA to get another shot at the level....."

Not really...Watson's a soft tossing lefty who can't go deep into games and gets injuried a lot. He's not starter material so it's time to see if he can cut it in the pen.

Moskos shouldn't be in AA for long if he has any success there.

The hand writing is on the wall for Ford and to a lesser degree Negrych.

Crotta and Hughes could be Tony Watson'ed or out of the organization by next year
