The most intersting thing about Heyward and the Pirates is that Ed Creech lived in Georgia. Heyward was right under his nose.

It was pretty well known way in advance that they would pass on Wieters, but Heyward was apparently on their radar. According to John Perrotto Ed Creech actually pushed for Heyward, and I've seen the Braves say there was only one team they were worried may draft him before their pick at 14.

That is interesting. considering that Kevin Mcclatchy's Pirates were all about cutting costs scouting, you'd have thought they would've sent Creech out locally more often since it wouldn't have cost Kevin as much in travel expenses

It wasn't Boras. It was former Georgia Tech player Victor Menocal. Not exactly a guy who strikes fear into the hearts of front offices.

I think he meant John "Gray-beaux," he's a plumber from Carrick!

(I didn't know, but I was afraid that is was Moskow. That hurts even more.)
