It's Mike Wallace's time in Pittsburgh
    April, 12, 2010
    By James Walker

[IMGR]http://i40.tinypic.com/4kth8m.jpg[/IMGR]The Pittsburgh Steelers' trade for Santonio Holmes means the team has a lot of confidence in second-year receiver Mike Wallace.

    And why not?

Wallace took advantage of every opportunity last season as a rookie, recording 39 receptions for 756 yards and six touchdowns. He added deep speed and reliable hands to Pittsburgh's offense as the No. 3 receiver, and Wallace could be an early fantasy sleeper for 2010 now that he's projected in the starting lineup.

Although the Steelers didn't get much in return for Holmes -- only a fifth-round pick -- they do have depth at the position. Wallace will step into Holmes' starting slot alongside Hines Ward, while the recently signed Antwaan Randle El likely will be the team's third receiver. Arnaz Battle and former 2008 second-round pick Limas Sweed are among the backups.

Not coincidentally, the Steelers are looking at receivers in this year's NFL draft. Receivers Golden Tate and Arrelious Benn were among the prospects to visit Pittsburgh last week.

    I agree.

He's a stud that showed some of it last year, it's time now to begin his rein for us.

    Def! I love that kid!

That catch he made in Green Bay last year was money.

Game on the line, feet inbounds, it was a pretty site.

Great player, I like him a lot. We need to have a solid running game to help the Wr's it would appear....losing 'Tone makes it easy for the Leagues defenses to lock on to the rest of the wr's...ARE and Battle are okay. We'll see if they can pick up the slack.

Oh yeah, I think Wallace is solid as they come. I hope so anyway. I'd love to see him take the next step and become huge.

He's got the hands and speed it seems.

I agree. But he's gotta have help, he can't do it all by himself....running game has got to be effective in short yardage and the other wr's have to do their job so teams can't double Wallace so much and take him away....They should go to Miller even more this upcoming season.

Wallace will be facing #1 and #2 CBs this year (probably #1, I don't see Ward commanding the other team's best CB), so we'll see how he does this year. It looks good, but he won't be protected like last year with Santonio on the outside, he's going to have to be the man.

Sometimes when a team goes through so much disparity, they pull together to prove something to the rest of the world, hopefully that will be the case this year.
