    Default Game 7

well, the pens haven't had the greatest history of game 7's at home. David Volek and the Islanders, the Florida Panthers come to mind. It seems we win all of our elimination games on the road. this game 7 has the classic Cinderella feel to it. The habs are playing over their heads and they have a history of pulling cups out of their asses, that and maybe being the first and last team to play the Pens at the igloo.

So, all i have to say is, please Sid and Geno, please score some goals. Lets have our role players chip in and if we win let it be comfortable and if we lose let it be quick and painless.

You just get the feeling that if we lose this one it's not going to be quick and painless. They're going to have to come out with the heart and pride of champions for this one!

Consistent play for 60 minutes will be a "must".

.... And a great game by Fleury.

What's been so frustrating for me is that Montreal is missing so many key players and the Pens can't do squat against them. I think too what everyone is forgetting and getting lost in the past two year run of going to the finals is that the last 10 or so games for the Pens during the regular season were not on anyone's highlight reels. They entered the playoffs as a "mediocre" team and that's exactly how they are playing now. I'm so tired of listening to the radio sport call in shows and all the fans are giving excuses for both Crosby and Malkin. Saying things like (Crosby) "he's not scoring but he's been a great mucker and grinder" and "the points are flowing but he's playing the other phases of the game fantasticly!" The last time I looked, Craig Adams gets paid to perform at that level...Crosby and Malkin get paid to score goals. If everyone is content for those two to be "muckers and grinders" then they need to take a pay cut and the team needs to go and find some scorers. These two get paid to score and they are not doing it! Making excuses for their "4th line play" doesn't cut it with me. They get the big bucks to score - not to board the oppostion.

    Agreed

This is playing out like the Isles in 93 and Panthers in 96.

The players on this team have nothing to to with 93 & 96. The Pens have been having the puck more than the Habs but are not cashing in. Frustrating! Last night 3 pucks ring the post. Cammalleri has out played both Crosby & Malkin and Halak has outplayed Fluery...but the Pens have just as good a chance to win as the Habs. Leopold and Goligoski are offensive D-men and McKee would fit better with one of them taking a seat. But you have to give the Habs credit. They beat the caps and have a 50/50 chance of doing it against the defending champs.

One other note....the Canadians were the first team to play at the Civic Arena and may play the last game at the arena...I dont like knowing that.

I don't know. I'm kind of discouraged right now.

Not because I think we'll lose game 7 - I think we'll win it handily. But let's face it - we shouldn't even be in this position right now against these clowns.

And assuming we handle Boston/Philthy ok, which is another question mark, I'm not sure I like our chances against either Chicago or San Jose, San Jose in particular.

It's just the overall play of the team this year that has me skeptical. They don't seem to have that fire and drive like last year, and only seem to crank it up when they absolutely have to. Their inconsistency is frustrating.

I was really hopeful that the playoffs would bring a resurgence in the type of play we've seen last year, but it doesn't seem to be happening. I know all of the excuses - too many games played in the last three years, soft d, average wingers, inconsistent goaltending, etc., but at the end of the day the boys just don't seem to have the focus.

    I hope I'm wrong.

If you want to draw parallels, you could also say this is playing out like the Flyers/Capitals in '09. Remember last year vs. the Flyers when we failed to close them out at home in Game 5 when we had the chance? Then we fell behind 3-0 in Game 6 before coming all the way back to clinch Round 1......Just like we did with the Senators. Then, for Round 2, we played the Capitals who had a hot goaltender that seemed to to come out of nowhere. The Pens had a 3-2 series lead, but failed to close out the Caps which led to Game 7. The hot goaltender finally cracked, and the Pens crushed the Caps to win Round 2.

Since most of the current Pens now were part of the '09 team, and NONE of them were on '93 or '96, I like making THAT comparison instead.

Having said that, I say the Halak finally cracks, and the Pens win 5-1, followed by a sweep of the Bruins.....
