Tomlin takes over Roethlisberger's football camp

Posted by Michael David Smith on May 25, 2010

Apparently realizing that parents don't view him as a positive role model for their children, Ben Roethlisberger has bowed out of the camp that was previously known as the Ben Roethlisberger Football Camp.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin will take his place at what's now being called the Coach Tomlin Football Camp, which will still take place as scheduled in late June at a Pennsylvania high school.

"At the request of Ben Roethlisberger, I have agreed to host this year's Youth Football Camp," Tomlin said in a statement given to the Associated Press. "Ben has expressed his hopes that this outstanding community program can continue despite his absence as he addresses issues regarding his personal life. The camp already has a significant number of kids signed up who are expecting a great experience, and both Ben and I want to make sure they are not disappointed."

The camp has 20 corporate sponsors, and although none threatened publicly to pull out, the A.P. raises the possibility that the companies' unease with Roethlisberger's off-field behavior influenced Roethlisberger's decision to pull out.

So, instead of camp sexual predator, the kids get camp "I'm in over my head and don't know what to do!" Great choices, how about a camp hosted by one of the "good guys" on our team.

What are these parents thinking? Punish your booger eaters at home, not in public at a sham camp.

Wow Tomlin did more in 2 years than Cowar did in 15 but he is way over his head. IF cowar is allowed to miss the playoffs 3 times cut Tomilin a break.

Tomlin took us to the superbowl and won it in his 2nd year it took Cowhar 13 years to get that done. He lots countless afc championship games at home. Tomlin still has not a had a losing season under Cowhar we had muliple.

As far as I'm concerned, right now Tomlin is no different, with his coaching resume and career, than Barry Switzer and/or George Siefert.

Tomlin took over a team that was only a couple of years removed from the Superbowl, inherited one of the sports best Defensive Coordinators, an MVP WR, franchise QB and a plethora of other talent.

Cowher came in, in 1992 and inherited a team that had made the playoffs once in 8 seasons and hadn't won 10 games in a single season since 1984. He brought in mostly all new coaches on all sides of the ball, changed the Offensive philosophy, Defensive philosophy, demoted and promoted a lot of players and took a team that had annually stunk and turned them into an 11-5 playoff winner in 1 seasons.

This has nothing to do with my opinion of Tomlin vs. Cowher and vice versa. Just the truth, Cowher did far more in one season than Tomlin has in his young career. Let me see what Tomlin does as a HC without a franchise QB, teams all-time leading yardage and TD Wide Reciever, 1,000 yard rusher and a proven great/good defense for years before Tomlin ever came here. then we can talk. Until then, lay off the crack pipe

What do they have in common?

Guys that inherited talented teams just recently gone to the Super Bowl.

At least with George Siefert he kind of one with his own team in 1994.

Have to give each (including Tomlin) credit. they could've taken good talent teams and killed them but each was able to just ride the coat tails of the inherited talent and success initially.
