Default Neil Walker Gets the Start at 2B!

    From Dejan:

    Pirates:

    1. 1. Ronny Cedeno, SS
    2. 2. Neil Walker, 2B
    3. 3. Andrew McCutchen, CF
    4. 4. Garrett Jones, RF
    5. 5. Ryan Church, LF
    6. 6. Andy LaRoche, 3B
    7. 7. Jeff Clement, 1B
    8. 8. Jason Jaramillo, C
    9. 9. Morton, P

I realize this probably isn't a long term thing... yet... But I've been waiting for this for a month. I hope Walker plays so well that JR has to keep him there. Just say NO to Aki!

Cedeno leading off too! This has potential.. Cedeno/Walker DP combo and 1-2 hitters for years to come... Neil Walker NL rookie of the year... Ok, I am getting carried away. Back to reality....

Yeah that's kinda over the top LOL...This should be interesting...Neil Walker has hit well so far...two games LOL...but hopefully he plays his way INTO the lineup CONSISTENTLY.

From what I've heard his 2B defense was kind of rough thus far. When the competition is Aki Iwamura and Delwyn Young it's tough to imagine he could be worse, though.

I just hope he can continue to hit...if so we'll find a spot for him b/c our O is struggling.

I have read several positive blog reports on his play at 2B at Indy. I have not read anything negative about his defense at 2B or any other position (except that he said 2B is the pos where he needs the most work).

For about the last weekish, Cedeno has had some tremendous AB's where he's fouled off pitch after pitch and worked the count and the pitcher to the tune of 10+ pitches etc.

Just having a guy like that, should he continue to do that, at the top makes a huge difference.

Meh. I want more than that. 2B is where Walker can fit in for the future. Right now, there is no second baseman of the future. 2B is a niche that needs to be filled on this team.

He's also batting above the mendoza line, is he not? That should also help...

Andy LaRoche may be the future there as well...its going to be about who can hit and field the position the best...if Walker can hit we'll find him a spot.

We also want to see Neil continue his progress at second base." Walker took some grounders at the position and sufficiently impressed Russell and staff that they were comfortable adding him to the lineup.

When you set your standards lower, it's much easier to attain your goals.

Yeah...doesn't sound very confident in the chances that Walker will see extended starts huh?
