Default Brad Lincoln to Start for the Pirates on Tuesday?

#Pirates list "TBA" as starter Tuesday v #Cubs. I'd expect Brad Lincoln to make his debut.

I read somewhere (but I can't find it) that his "super two" status time is up and the Bucs are free to bring him up anytime now.

Walker and Lincoln are two callups that are now ready (IMO) and have a spot available where they can make an impact at the ML level this season.

Last night may have been Lincoln's last start in AAA....

"Saturday, 29 May 2010 00:39 Written by Dejan Kovacevic

INDIANAPOLIS (24-23) had its game at Charlotte suspended after five scoreless innings. The game will be completed today as part of a doubleheader. RHP Brad Lincoln (5-2, 3.47) pitched five scoreless innings and allowed one hit. He struck out seven, walked one and threw 44 of 61 pitches for strikes."

We'll see what he has...he's succeeded well at AAA...his velocity is up and so are his strikeouts. I'd rather see him stay down there and see him completely dominate for a whole season...but when you need a game why not see what he can do.

if lincoln is clear to come up they definitely should do it. As of right now, we are 9 games under .500, the walker call up has been successful, he has shown he has the defensive capability, and continues to smack doubles drove in a couple runs and has been a real positive in the lineup. This team is about 2, 3 game winning streaks away from looking half decent again. If Lincoln has the ability to come up and be consistent, im all for it. This team needs another consistent pitcher to go 6 or 7 innings, and hold down the fort. He doesnt have to come up and be a Roy Halladay, but he does need to come up and at the least eat up some innings with a 4.something or less ERA.

The wins and losses dont matter this year. I want to see the kids be succesfull at the ML and Lincoln has earned a shot and if he is successful then we have 4 quality Starters in our roation and could go with Burress while Morton is working things out in AAA.

I can almost guarantee you Jeff Karstens starts on Tuesday. There is a chance they let Lincoln start the game on Wednesday and push Duke back a day, though.

    From Dejan
"UPDATE 4:47 P.M.: Scratch Brad Lincoln from the candidate pool to fill that TBA opening Tuesday in the rotation as a result of Charlie Morton's trip to the disabled list. "He doesn't line up," manager John Russell said moments ago in the Turner Field visitors clubhouse. "I don't see that as a possibility." Lincoln threw 61 pitches -- 44 for strikes -- in a one-hit, five-inning start in Charlotte Friday night suspended by lightning; his next scheduled start would be Wednesday. However, Russell didn't completely close the door on Lincoln being available later in Morton's 15-day absence. . ."

"Before the game, Pirates general manager Neal Huntington spoke on his radio show how fans shouldn't expect Brad Lincoln to be recalled anytime soon.

"Brad has had a quality May, and we're still working through the process with him. Sometimes, Triple-A stats don't always convert to major-league performance, but Brad's certainly getting closer." The changeup and breaking ball are more effective of late. "But four or five outings doesn't mean he's mastered it."

I agree with Neil. Uou should never make moves just to placate the fanbase.

Right. Giving the Pirates a chance to win some games might placate them. Stupid fans. When's does Charlie come off of the DL anyway?

When he goes 1-9 with a 9.35 ERA then you might have point.

If they brought him up this week and he did well, what would be the line then?

That at least they made a move to replace a guy who is 1-9 and has an ERA near 10 with a guy who was a number one pick, is pitching well and deserves a shot. There has to be some accountability and Neal can't use "learning on the job" or "triple A stats don't translate" when you have Clement and Morton doing just that. I will point out Neal said the same bull**** about Cutch last year, needing more seasoning in the minors, what exactly did Cutch have to work on? If that was true several of the guys we have now could go back down and work on stuff. If Lincoln can't do it, who in the 3 years of Huntington do we have that can?

I have seen Karstens he is a boarderline 5th starter nothing more, he may struggle and give us 6 innings but that is all we can hope from him. We are now 11 games under 500 how many more loses until the guys who are producing get delt with. Accountabilty is what they have been preaching right now we have 2 or 3 ML hitters in our everyday lineup, there is a light at the end of the tunnel but I am not sure the tunnel is as a clear as we hope.
