    Default Johnson to start Friday

Johnson to start for Penguins Friday against Florida
    Thursday, October 22, 2009
    By Shelly Anderson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

With back-to-back home games tomorrow and Saturday, backup goaltender Brent Johnson will start for the Penguins tomorrow night against Florida, coach Dan Bylsma said today.

Johnson's only other start as a Penguin came Oct. 7 in the third game of the season. He made 24 saves in a 3-0 loss at home to Phoenix, but it was the team's worst performance.

No. 1 goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is 8-0 and is expected to be in goal Saturday night against New Jersey.

Was wondering when they were going to give MAF a little break. Back to back games makes to most sense to do so.

Johnson looked good in his 1 start despite the loss

After Friday, I'm guessing Johnson will get one more start before the month is over. Either on the Oct. 30 against Columbus or Oct. 31 against Minnesota. I'm anxious to see more of the guy after that Phoenix loss. That score could easily have been 6-0 if it weren't for him.

Yeah I think they will try to give MAF back-to-back at least one game off...the way he's playing you want him out there as much as possible so there aren't really many other opportunities.

Columbus would make more sense for him to start, but who knows. both ae out of conference games so they aren't as meaningful

Why does Columbus make more sense? They have a better O than Minnesota does...do they not?

Au contraire, mon ami. At the end of the season for playoff seeding or just getting into the playoffs, all games are meaningful.

You're right. I had to check it out. Besides having a better offense, Columbus has a decent record while Minnesota is something like 2-6-0 and sitting in last place

I like our goalie tandem. Honestly...I haven't had this much confidence in the Pens goalies since...EVER.

I've been trying to find a close-up pic of his helmet. Thanks. That is awesome.

You almost hate to see Fleury take a sit for a game with the way he has been playing, but Johnson needs his time and Fleury needs a break.

More recently, I was comfortable with the Fleury/Conklin combo. Barrasso/Young was also nice.

He looked good in his one start but it was only one start. Defo anxious to see more of what he can do.

    Very true.

He looked good with the Caps last season up until his injury. I believe he was named one of the NHL players of the week at one point. Here's to hoping he can pick up where he left off.
