    Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed right wing Nick Johnson to a one-year contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

The deal is for the 2010-11 season and is a two-way contract that will pay Johnson $500,000 at the NHL level.

Johnson, 24, made his NHL debut this season with Pittsburgh, recording one goal and two points in six games. He notched his first career NHL goal (and point) in his first game Jan. 21 vs. Washington.

The 6-foot-1, 202-pound winger played the majority of the season with Pittsburgh’s top-minor league affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. Johnson finished fifth on the club in goals (16) and points (43) despite playing in only 61 contests. The responsible forward placed third on the team with a plus-19 rating. Johnson excelled in the postseason where he led WBS in goals (4) and points (t-4) in four playoff games.

Johnson, who was drafted by the Penguins in the third round (67th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, has played the last two-plus seasons in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, totaling 30 goals, 45 assists, 75 points and a plus-34 rating in 121 games. He’s also produced 15 points (8G-7A) in 26 playoff games.

The Calgary, Alberta native played four seasons of college hockey at Dartmouth. He finished his collegiate career with 125 points (57G-68A) in 133 games, and was named First-Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference and First-Team All-Ivy League after posting 35 points (10G-25A) in his senior campaign.

    Good news.

now let him and Tangradi compete for one of the open Wing positions next to Malkin. This means ..

    Dear Ray Shero,

Don't go out and waste $2-2.5 million on some has been, can barely produce, soff winger for Malkin. Start using guys you have in the system and use that money towards a good winger instead of splitting it amongst all of the mediocre wingers you tend to sign annual (Fedotenko, Satan, Ekman)
