The Pirates next pick is #52 overall. There are only 50 picks today, so they'll be somewhere around noon tomorrow. I'll try to put up a list of guys who have fallen out of the first day after tonight's picks are done.

Don't like Dietrich @52. Can't run no range at SS.

I like this comment from Charlie at BucsDugout:

"There isn't much of an organizational need for warm bodies the way there was in, say, 2008. So I think the Pirates will go for a bunch of kamikaze tough-sign picks and concentrate on signing a handful of them."

Doubt it...he's played SS his whole life.

I think we could go HS again here...though.

-I doubt they take Allie...kinda like Taillon but more work to do...although he is a flamethrower.

-I like Workman and he'd be a good addition to the organization, but with some of the high-end H.S. talent available you almost have to think they go H.S. here

I did not realize, I guess because I did not really look, at who had not been drafted. Its fairly significant that Wilson, Cole, Cabrera, and Vanegas made it to the top of the 2nd round....

I'd take Austin Wilson...but they likely wont have the money to be able to sign him plus Taillon and still put together a good draft................so you will probably see them go safer with a guy like Workman, Eibner, or Dietrich.

I dont agree with your assessment of Dietrich, but I must say I had not looked at the full first round+comp yet and failed to realize the quality of some players left: like Cole, Cabrera, Wilson, and Workman.

You'd have to think, though, that taking one of the HS'ers would make it difficult to sign a decent draft class behind them...although Washington had a decent draft last year after spending fairly significant money early on.

He won't stay at SS and I question if he has the pop to play 3rd.

The worst, from what I have seen and what I have heard, is that he'd be a gold glove power hitting 2B. He certainly has the athleticism and range to play 2B...he turns DPs well...his glove has never been an issue and has been one of his strong points.........and power? The kid has hit consistently with good gap power and racked 35 extra base hits in 240 ABs...that's certainly a good number.

Have you watched Dietrich play a lot?

His bat and defensive skill set would play better at 2nd but I don't know how special he would be. Drafting a 2nd baseman at #52 is aiming too low for me.
