    That was a good article.

I still cringe when I see this in print:

Still, this was a good day for the franchise. Remember the forgettable six-year period from 1997-2002 when the Pirates all but wasted first-round picks on J.J. Davis (No. 6), Clint Johnston (15), Bobby Bradley (8), Sean Burnett (19), John Van Benschoten (8) and -- the real killer -- Bryan Bullington (1)?

Bobby Bradley (TJ surgery), Sean Burnett (TJ, shoulder surgery), John Van Benschoten ( TJ, shoulder surgery)and Bryan Bullington (TJ surgery)....... I like the Taillon pick but this is the reason I would have picked Machado.

I understand how it can be a legit concern for some, but I just fail to see how the past medical history of specific individuals has anything to do whatsoever with a current draft pick.

Especially since those arms we've both mentioned were all 'tutored' under an old regime that may have/most likely did things and handled prospects differently.

It doesn't but it illustrates a point that's irrefutable and has been beaten to death that taking a pitcher that high is a very big gamble.

I pointed it out in another thread also but to my knowledge no pitcher drafted by NH has needed arm or shoulder surgery. All the guys with arm problems lately are guys acquired in trades or other acquisitions.

Bobby Bradley was the ****. Can't blame them for drafting a bum that shouldn't have been a first round P, you can still fault the FO for not managing him though.

Funny...when I saw the headline my first thought was "wow...the article must make sense today"

Quinton Miller is in trouble. Hasn't pitched since April with arm trouble - "biceps tendinitis". Biceps tendinitis is what Kevin Hart had leading up to his more significant injury (torn labrum?).

Also weren't those pitchers all college players? I swear the college regime abuses the hell out of their arms. Taillon has only pitched 60 innings this year (if I remember reading correctly). Getting him into a ML structure of training and building arm strenth this early is a positive thing IMO.

I agree its a big gamble and I agree that pitchers get hurt more than regular every day players...however I think if the organization brings the pitcher along well and develops him properly there really is value in selecting a guy with ACE stuff and mentality.
