Steelers safety Troy Polamalu intercepts a pass against the Cleveland Browns Sunday.

Safety Troy Polamalu did not practice today for the second straight time as the Steelers prepare to play the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings Sunday.

Polamalu, who returned to play for the first time last Sunday since the opening game, declined to predict whether he will make his second straight start.

"I don't think it benefits anybody to not practice, but I think regarding injuries it's a benefit."

Polamalu's MCL in his left knee was sprained in the opener, causing him to miss four straight games. He injured it again Sunday playing against the Browns when his knee struck the ground, but coach Mike Tomlin indicated that would be no problem.

"I feel pretty good right now,'' Polamalu said.

Normally, players who do not practice by Friday do not play on Sunday for the Steelers.

Practice?...We're talkin about Practice?...PRACTICE???? -Allen Iverson

I'm sure Troy will be fine, otherwise he wouldnt have finished the game last Sunday. My guess is that MT's just trying play it safe so there are no accidents in PRACTICE! If there is one guy that can get away with missing a couple of sessions it's Troy!...and we will need him this week, no doubt!

Exactly, we don't need to be exposing Troy to any potential setbacks if possible. Let him rest and receive treatment so he can wreak havoc. The bye ought to bring him most of the way back.

Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu returned to Steelers practice today after missing the previous two days while resting and recovering from an MCL sprain that caused him to miss four games before he started last Sunday against Cleveland.

Friday practice is a sure sign of a player's ability to play, if not start, on Sunday -- when the Steelers play host to 6-0 Minnesota at Heinz Field.

As expected, Polamalu worked with the first-team defense.

After practice, he pronounced himself ready to start and play Sunday -- when he plans to try the knee brace that he used in practice late last week and yesterday, but shed last weekend in the victory over the Browns.

"I'll probably try it on Sunday," Polamalu said. "Of course, it's bothersome to wear. There was no way [last weekend] I could get into a gallop with it." But, he added, the brace is starting to feel a little less limiting with additional usage.

I would be more alarmed if Troy didn't finish the Cleveland game after the interception. Since he played the rest of the game after slamming his knee to the ground I would venture to guess he is sitting out of practice as a precaution and for some needed rest.
