    Default Pearce

Seems like he deserves to be called back up, right? If the youth movement is really in place, I think maybe Church needs to go....

I wouldn't be surprised if they leave him in AAA a little longer to see if they can figure something out. I'd bring him right up and dump Church immediately, but I doubt they will. I think Delwyn Young might be more likely to go, or it's possible they trade someone.

Church is interesting in that he has some history of being able to hit. Just needs to show it more here though. DY has demonstrated that with this team. Church plays D in RF pretty well. He has demonstrated that better than Young.
The problem is when Pearce comes back and goes to 1st (I hope), the logjam in the outfield picks up. Always nice to have those tough decisions for once. But I agree in that DY draws the short stick.

Pearce is ready, but the Pirates can't continue to just dump players and get nothing in return. If they can trade any of Church, Young, or LaRoche it would make sense to leave Pearce in AAA and take the time to do so.

I'm thinkin it's pretty simple here. Jones has more upside than Pearce at 1b, and Tabata's got more of a future in the OF than Jones. That would leave a decision of Milledge or Pearce for playing time, and Pearce loses out on that one, too.

Leave him in AAA for now.

i say give him a week down in AAA and if he is hitting, bring him back up. Church should be the one to go he has had plenty of time to hit and hasnt done it. Pearce on the other hand was really starting to show some promise, at the plate and in the field, before his injury. Out with the old in with the new.

Can anyone explain why? 3B is much more blocked than 1B in PGH and the chance of success is tiny. Is this designed to push Andy off the roster (he and Pedro are the only true 3B now, right?)?

What's up with that? Maybe Indy is short bodies at 3rd? Or are they trying to turn Pearce into another Mack-O-Whack?

Has to be a misprint.....it happens. Probably Myrow is at 3rd and Pearce is DH'ing.

Indy doesn't have a true 3B on the roster right now. Since Pedro left the position mainly been played by Brian Myrow, who hasn't played there in years. I guess they wanted to get him a day off (he's DHing), so they just tried to see who could do it. I think you might end up seeing Iwamura over there soon. Plus it never hurts for a guy to be more versatile, although I doubt he sees much if any time there going forward.

Nope, Pearce is actually playing third.

I just turned on the game...you are right. That's just plain stupid! They have other players like Negrych, Melillo and Bernier that can play there.

Priming Pearce for a utility role maybe?

As it stands now, Pearce is fairly useless on the bench being that he can really only play 1B, since RF was sort of a DY at 2nd/Doumit at 1B disaster. Plus Pearce admitted to hating playing the OF. Pearce's bat came to life slightly this season but there's still no good spot for him on the roster as a Starter. With Milledge finally hitting again with his BA over .270, you simply can't bench that. Only Jones, Walker and Cutch have better Batting Averages on the team right now

After seeing Doumit play 1st, Huntington isn't shy about throwing players into foreign positions

Me thinks Pearce mouthed off too soon. He may already be on the team, instead of Church, if he liked the outfield!

Both DY and Donut played right field respectably. DY also played some good 2b after a few weeks on the job.

Did anyone notice that Jones is hitting .290?

The killer thing about all the sub guys is that there is no shortstop improvement over Crosby, and he is actually a pretty nice member of the team. He started out unimpressive, but has come along. Shortstop is an area of needed improvement........How are the minors in this regard?
