Default Coyotes Loss Not So Embarrassing After All

I don't know about all yinze, but I felt our one loss: 3-0 stinker to Phoenix, was quite humiliating for a defending Stanley Cup champion. I know I'm not the only one. However, while browsing through some team statistics, I'm thinking it wasn't such a bad loss. I don't know how long they can keep it up, but the Coyotes are off to an impressive start. The have the fewest goals against in the entire NHL with 12. The league average is around 24. They have a miniscule goals against average of 1.47. They are also leading their division with a 6-2-0 record. A division which includes the Sharks and the Ducks. Not saying, I'm convinced they're a good team just yet, just saying they're off to a great start, and I don't think it's too bad that our one loss so far was to them.

It wasn't so much the loss, as how the loss occurred. A total lack of team effort in the Phoenix loss. Today's first period was eerily reminiscent of that game, but they showed up for the last two periods.

This was a reinforcement of sorts...you just can't take any team or game for granted.

I'm with ihun... it was the way we played in that loss than the loss itself but I didn notice the exact same thing tonight, el Sid, when i was doing the stats for the game day graphic. I had no idea that Phoenix was doing that well. They get rid of Gretzky as a HC and all of the suddenly they play good

I agree with Kip and usernames...the problem is that we really didn't even seem to try in that game.

However, looking at our record...I mean could we REALLY ask for TOO much more? A win tomorrow would be nice too though

back to back games are always tough fatigue wise. coming off a shoot out game type of length, should make tomorrows game tougher. Luckily we took off the first 2 periods tonight to help save some energy for the Devils tomorrow night

I was pretty impressed with Volkun tonight. On occasion the other team has something to do with the game you know. I am glad they could pull this out. Johnson deserved this one and the last one for that matter.

Took 2 periods off and registered 43 shots......

But yeah tomorrow will be tough...and will likely be tough to watch too b/c of the D-game that the Devils play

Vokoun did look good...although I have to say that I was a little disappointed with Malkin in the game. He had several opportunities and he seemed almost baffled by the left-handed goalie...and then he started to shoot wide to overcompensate...it was a lil disappointing...but we still get the W.

Yep that is why I HATE those **********s. They need to open up the game with a couple goals like they did a few years ago. I seem to remember embarrassing Brodeur quite a few times in recent times. We need a game like that or else it is going to be a long one.

Vkoun had a great game. He was a difference maker for the Panthers in the 3rd period. Had it not been for him with all of the shots we were gertting on him and the PP chances we'd have won by 2 goals.

Florida's forecheck was pretty impressive as well. their team of a lot of nobodies and 3rd liners have a strong pressuring forecheck and cycle going. Pens players were helping out to make guys like Booth look great however

I hope Malkin comes out fired up... since Sid did the scoring tonight...and dominates the game. We're still waiting for a game that Malkin takes over like we know he can...why not tomorrow to start?

You listen to Errey too much. He had great opportunities this game and last, but didn't bury them. As I recall, St Louis' goalie gloved the opposite of Vokoun.

Malkin played like crap at times but still got points and made things happen. On his worst day he is still better than most. First game trying to get used to new D parings and we get a win, I'll take it.

That is true...and that's also why I mentioned elsewhere that right now Sid and Geno really aren't even clicking on all cylinders and we're performing this well...when they put it all together they can/will be scary good.
