    Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins promoted Derek Clancey to Director of Professional Scouting and re-signed Andre Savard as a Professional Scout, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Clancey, who is entering his fourth season with the Penguins, will coordinate the Penguins’ pro scouting efforts in North America and Europe, and will work closely with Director of Player Personnel Dan MacKinnon and pro scouts Andre Savard and Kevin Stevens.

Clancey, 41, who was hired as a pro scout by the Penguins in 2007, had worked previously in coaching. He has an overall head coaching record of 260-184-52 with the Dayton Bombers (2006-07), Reading Royals (2003-05) and Jackson Bandits (1999-2003) of the East Coast Hockey League. Clancey, who played eight professional seasons before his coaching career, also served as an assistant coach of the Manchester Monarchs (2005-06) of the American Hockey League, the top minor-league affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings.

Savard, who has operated as a pro scout with the Penguins since Feb. 2009, originally joined the Penguins as an assistant coach in July, 2006. He helped the Penguins capture the Eastern Conference championship in 2008 and earn their first Stanley Cup Final berth since 1992.

Prior to joining the Penguins, Savard spent six years with the Montreal Canadiens in several capacities: assistant general manager (2003-06); general manager (2000-03); and director of hockey personnel (2000).

Savard, 56, served five seasons as a scout for the Ottawa Senators (1995-00), including four years as head scout. Before joining the Senators, Savard was a member of the Quebec Nordiques for 10 years in various roles: head of player personnel, scout, assistant coach and head coach.

Savard played 790 career NHL games in 12 seasons for Boston, Buffalo and Quebec after being drafted sixth-overall in the 1973 NHL Entry Draft by Boston. He totaled 482 points (211G-271A).

    Not sure.

what was old man Malone's title?

Not having a director of Pro Scouting could help explain some of the awful personnel decisions by Ray Shero via trades and Free Agency during his tenure
