McFadden Seems Ready to Take Over the Starting Left Corner Job
Posted by Matt Loede on July 17th, 2010

Coach Mike Tomlin said he would settle on his starting left cornerback before the start of training camp, and left little doubt that would be re-acquired veteran Bryant McFadden, who ran with the first team throughout the spring. William Gay started in 2009 after McFadden signed as a UFA with Arizona. The Steelers traded for McFadden during the draft.

I still can't believe with Tomlins secondary knowledge and Lebeaus knowledge that they thought Gay could handle the starting position. I do give Tomlin credit for being able to recognize his mistakes and changing them. Gay for one and Mayhan another. Cowher would have beat those dead horses until the players decided to retire. Washington, Scott are prime examples of Cowher sticking with the sub-par players and just being stuborn or too arrogant to change.

Seriously - who expected Gay to be the starter this year?

Why do you think we went out and got BMac back?

Why are you guys talking like McFadden is the starter? Did Tomlin say that and I missed it. He said it will be settled before the start of training camp.

Hey Tomlin how about we stop playing ****ing games already? Did you watch the 16 games last year? Gay is out of his league just like you. Make a managerial decision already, hurt some feelings, and name McFadden the starter now. These cute little games you try to play don't fly anymore after the horrible season you coached last year.

I thought that same **** too! I'm down here in Louisville, and saw him play a lot. I knew he had plenty of upside, but said back then when we drafted him, I hoped IF he could measure up on his own against the big boys. He's almost fair to middlin on his own, and he does have coaches with a certain "pedigree" about db's coaching him.

Insert, cant cut the mustard smile.
Sorry, but last season proved, with no Troy, he was as exposed as kind of like a rookie without leadership.
I'd really like to hear in the pre-season B-Mac ***** slaps him into reality and fosters what the Steelers D.B.'s have been missing for years, ASSERTION.

Gay's an odd player. His first few games here, my wife and I thought he looked fairly promising. He made a few plays we thought were pretty good and there was the possibility that he'd work out.

After that initial honeymoon period, his production has fallen away to the laughable.

That explains the angry shaking of fists!

Gay at times acted as if it was a big joke after he got burned on a play by laughing it off. He was burned so many times we should call him Chuckles. I was sick to my stomach to watch this guy be out of position, getting made the fool and then laughing about it. He looked like a boy trying to play a mans game. How could the coaches feel he was ready or had enough talent ?

What goes with McFadden ? How was his play for the Cardinals ? I understand they were not too happy with his results. Does anyone know ?

Gay sucked all last year. I was mad when they let BMac go. He did a hell of a job when he played for us in 08. I hope he can continue that success.
    remember that? Yeah he sucks.

During one of the late season games the announcer mentioned teams were completing 69% of all passes in Gay's direction. Even in today's pass happy, dink and dunk NFL that's just awful.

I still think he can be an effecive nickel back though.

... The ******** that got plowed by AP, can't catch a pass even if his old man invented stick-um, and forgot the meaning of zone coverage.....

    ... I think...

But hell, I honestly don't mind him as a situational player... Just not a starter, that's all...

I agree, I think he's more suited to play the Nickel back, at least that's where he showed a little promise 2 seasons ago.
