Default Hayden Penn, we hardy knew ye

Triple-A Indianapolis pitcher Hayden Penn is finalizing a deal with Chiba Lotte of the Japanese Pacific League.

"The money is such that he feels it is important for him to be allowed this opportunity," general manager Neal Huntington said. "We reluctantly agreed."

The Pirates could have vetoed the deal but figured Penn probably did not figure into their plans at the major-league level in 2011.

Reliever Vinnie Chulk also is on the inactive list at Indianapolis as he attempts to work out a deal with a different Japanese team.

I have been to games in Japan (stayed in Chiba and have seen the stadium there, nice place) and they are a lot of fun. It is definitely a different environment.

    Good luck y'all!

I've been to a Japanese game as well. You're absolutely right about it being a different atmosphere. I saw the Hanshin Tigers, and all the fans sang a song in unison before the game. Get this. Guess who was pitching for the Tigers......our old friend Ryan Vogelsong!!! He actually pitched very well, and even hit a three run homer.

Yeah I went to a Hiroshima Carp game. It was a ton of fun.

Ole Vogey evidently had a decent career in the land of the rising sun.
