    Default ATTN: "Sunday Ticket" Subscribers...

This topic was discussed several months back, and being as anal-retentive as I am, I marked it on my calendar for a "reminder" this month...

NOW is the time to address this BEFORE you start getting billed (which for me, will be with next month's billing cycle)...

... If you call them (Directv) and threaten to cancell the service, they will cut you a deal...

Today, my air conditioning still hadn't been fixed, so I was hot, sweaty, and *****y... A perfect time to "unleash hell" on the overpriced mega-conglomerate that is Directv...

I called them, finally got ahold of a customer service rep, then asked to be connected to the cancellation department (which is actually the "premium services" department). I started by telling them that the cost was outrageous, and even though I've had the service for 10+ years, I needed to stop it... I continued to spell-out that my team has 5 prime time games, another against the local team, and that at least 3 more would probably be televised nationally. That left only 7 games for the $350 they were charging me (6 payments of $49.99 for the Ticket, and 5 payments of $9.99 for the "Go-To" service that is replacing the Superfan package), and at that price, I just wasn't gonna do it.

Long story short, he basically gave me 50% off of the Ticket (dropped the payment price from $49.99 to $24.99) and gave me the "Go-To" service for free... So, total cost out the door dropped from $349.89 to $149.94... Basically a $200 savings... Just by asking...

Now, there have been urban myths of folks getting it for basically free, but I have never personally seen it... If you can get an even better deal, cool!... Let us all know about it... If you don't want to waste your time doing it, also cool!.... It took me a grand total of about 20 minutes waiting thru the automated system and getting a live rep to talk to, but even so, it worked-out to about $10 a minute for my savings... Maybe I could'a gotten more, but it is at least a start...

... Hope you all take advantage of the possibilities available to you!

Masterly negotiation, sir! It just goes to show the width of their profit margin if they have the latitude to offer a deal with that kind of trimming.

Makes me glad to live in the broadcast region, having seen the necessary outlay.

Seriously... You really SHOULD count your blessings... I never realized how much I took it for granted till I moved away.

... Ehhh... I'll probably take the $200 savings and throw a freakin' party on the opening Sunday...

My luck they would cancel my service. Then I would have to call them back with my tail between my legs to reactivate it. The option is to take my *** out of the house and head to the casino which at the end of the year costs me less if I just stayed home in the first place.

Brother, alot of folks on here give you a hard time... I have no problem saying that I like you alot, and respect your opinion as a friend... And if you were to have that situation (as I was worried about), it's really not a big deal... So what if you re-institute the service after you cancell? Who the **** cares?.... It's not like you're gonna meet/see/have dinner with any of their customer service reps anytime in the near future.

... And by the way, spending time at the Hilton as we did is not too much of a bad thing, except for the cost... ... It's a great memory for me, and you better believe that the next time I am ever in town, your phone will be ringing!...

I'm just busting balls with ya. I have gotten superfan for free the last 3 or 4 years ($100) doing exactly what you said. I have never tried to get the ticket discounted because I never heard from anyone that they were actually successful.

I'm thinking about using the excuse I just mentioned. I can tell them I plan to go to the casino on Sundays to watch the games. I can't justify spending $350 bucks for a few Sundays were I can't make it to the casino. That should do the trick I think.

Anytime you are in town let me know I will certainly go back to the Hilton. As long as you don't mind watching the Steelers with a "racist." .
