    Default Haren Traded...

Does this set the price for starting pitching and, if so, what does that say Maholm is worth to a team in the playoff run????

Tough to say since Haren is a Righty and Maholm is a Lefty. That makes some difference in value right there this time of the season.

Erase which arm they throw with and expect about half as much as Haren got a return for since Haren is a better pitcher in just about every way Haren has struggled with his H/9 this year but he still has shown strong control and can still strike batters out instead of relying on contact and such like a Maholm. the higher H/9 could be jsut bad luck. all of his numbers that are defensively and luck reliant are as good as they ever have been for Haren... Can't say any of that about Maholm

Just took a look at his contract... . Can't blame them.

So now you have a guy on a ****ty contract who throws righty against a guy that will be lucky to make half of that who throws lefty.

Still don't think you can use one to determine the other in any way

Especially when you factor in team needs. A pitcher like Maholm just might not be in demand. Or maybe a team runs into injury problems with its starting rotation (all it takes is two,) and Maholm's worth skyrockets.

I think comparisons can only be drawn in free agency signings, not on trades.

Essentially, the Angels traded Paul Maholm in the Dan Haren deal...Joe Saunders and Paul Maholm are very close in overall quality.

In one report I read, "Saunders" was considered a solid pitcher, indicative of what it took to get Haren (have no diea about the toher three).

My ideal trade would be Maholm, Dotel, and one of our middle relievers to the Dodgers for their two minor league aces, the shortstop (whose name I forget) and the "thumper," whose name I also forget.

I also would pick up $5 Mil of Maholm's 2011 salary as part of that trade.
