Default Today's update: Server Host Issue, Not Ours...

Hey folks, as some of you are aware, the board was down for several hours late this morning into mid-afternoon...

It was a issue with our server host, not us... They are located in New York City, and apparently lost power for their entire facility...

So with no power on their end, we were dead in the water... Nothing we could do.

    ... Just so y'all know...

Well folks, it happened again today.... This time even worse....

Here's the scoop.... Our server host, Galaxy Visions, said that the power transformer they installed yesterday, because of the outage, failed today... It took them almost 12 hours to get a generator for back-up power installed.... In Brooklyn, NY!.... Yea, trust me folks, me and Kipper have been SERIOUSLY ****ED about this all day!... But unfortunately, there was nothing we could do about it.

Here's what we are GONNA do about it for the future:... We are going to change our server host, and do it on our own timeframe so as to have it completed well before the start of football... We personally cannot accept this sort of instance as a recurring event.... It is not fair to you, and it is not fair to us... For that reason, things are gonna change.

To most of the board members, you will not notice a thing. We are going to plan, and set the change in such a way that the board will be down for only about an hour or so, and will schedule it for the middle of the night, when most members are NOT on the board.

Quite honestly, I am ****ing tired of apologizing for things that are out of our control. I can only promise you, the board members, that we are doing absolutely everything within our power to provide you a "quality" posting environment. The issues today were completely out of our control, but we are doing everything possible to ensure that they do not happen again... That, I do promise. Kipper is gonna be on this stuff "hard core", and I am gonna do my usual "*****ing" to everyone that will listen via e-mail or phone.... LoL!

...Bear with us, please.... Once again, I apologize.

Have you guys looked into 1&1? I am sure you would need a bigger package than I have but man it's dirt cheap and great service. I know a lot of really huge sites and business use them so they can handle traffic of basically any size. If you were interested in their service please let me know before you sign because I think I can get something in return for the referral.

I checked out 1&1 and unfortunately, their disk space is too low on the package we would want. To get the Disk Space we need, we'd be paying $60.00 per month and paying that price for a bunch of stuff we're nowhere near needing

We're looking for a reliable VPS service as close to $40 per month as possible with no less than 256MB RAM, 40GB+ of disk storage, Free cpanel or Plesk, lots of CPU cores and bandwidth matters very little. All on a Linux server (my preference)

The Linux servers still don't offer the average numbers to cost that alot of others do (at least at all the places I saw today)... The thing is, we're trying to balance it out... Hell, if cost wasn't an option, we'd have alot of different top sites to choose from, but the sad fact is that it IS a consideration... Gotta find the happy medium with reliability being the key component... If that makes any sense.

Cool I didnt realize you needed a different type of server. 1&1 is nice but yeah 60 bucks is a bit steep. I can ask around for you though.

Please do ask around... It's a VPS (as we have now), as Kip said.... E-mail him or me in the next day or so if you turn anything up... Otherwise, we're gonna go with what we found.... But you know, the more knowledge the better, and all info helps in the decision... We'd appreciate any info available... "An informed decision is a quality decision"... That's what I was thinking too.

I'm not really upset that the sight was down. It's the way life is now that we're in this techno-world mode. Hell, I deal with computer issues at work seemingly from the time I arrive until I leave to head home.

I guess the thing that is frustrating is not knowing what the problem is. I always assume it's something within our network (which believe me is usually the problem) and spend time trying to scan it from this end.

In the scheme of things, we all could have a lot worse issues to deal with.

    Whatever.

Kip was playing Oregon Trail on his computer and forgot to flip the floppy disk and all hell broke loose with the site.

Either that or NKY tripped on a cord again.

We're trying to keep things around the $40-45 per month level, less if possible. If we would go with a quarterly or 6 month [plan, those monthly numbers would come down but we don't want to get locked into something without a 1 or 2 month test run.

Our problem is finding exactly what we need. 1&1 hosting has been mentioned to me twice now but for just an additional 20+GB of storage/hard drive space, $20 bucks a month os crazy talk there's also the issue of finding out who is reliable and not. I've read a bunch of reviews for some places only to look at the people that made those reviews and see that they are from opposing server hosting companies That's a lack of a credibility right there

In this case we know what the problem was (if we were being told the truth) but in any case a power outage is solved with a backup generator. Most small businesses have one. I HAVE a frickin generator for my own house.. 2 days worth of nearly 18 hours of downtime is unacceptable and it happened earlier this month too (without an explanation), not to mention my complaints a couple months back about how slow the site was moving. We come nowhere close to using up all of our resources available so logically we should be "flying".

Sorry if this came off as more of a tirade

Let's leave my Oregon Trail and this beauty out of it... ok?
