Default OT: Philadelphia acquires Roy Oswalt

For JA Happ and prospects, who's names I will get for you momentarily.

This deal is contingent on Oswalt waiving his no-trade to Philly.

Tyson Gillies, Jared Cosart and Jonathan Singleton are the names I'm hearing.

I haven't heard any details on the names, but if that's the package then they made out pretty good. I don't really like Happ very much, and Gillies I could take or leave. Those two players from Lakewood could be stars, though. Cosart has one of the best fastballs in the minors, and Singleton is shooting up prospect charts like crazy. I've seen him in person a few times and he's really impressive at the plate. Everything I read about him online is glowing too. I would be shocked if they're including both of those players.

I doubt Ed Wade is that smart but if he does get that package he should be GM of the year.

I was at the Lakewood game last night. Singleton is a big athletic kid with a nice presence on the field. Has a nice approach at the plate, although he didn't do anything special. Even hit into a rally killing DP. I was sitting next to the SP's dad and he commented that Singleton is the top player on the team and gets lots of attention.

I wondered why Littlefield was at the game. Maybe the Cubs are sellers this time and looking for prospects.

Littlefield is a special assistant to the GM so part of his job is to scout. Being it’s trading deadline time he's probably on the road every day now. Also the east has to be Littlefield's area of scouting responsibility. I see him at a lot games in the area.

Its looking now like it is just Jared Cosart and Jonathan Singleton for Oswald. Still a good deal for the Stros.

VA, I'm not sure if the Stros would be getting all three, but I know at minimum two of them (and Happ) will be involved in the deal.

Still a pretty good haul if you ask my opinion. If they can get Happ, Singleton and Cosart, it's a brilliant deal for Wade.. If they wind up with Happ, Singleton OR Cosart and Gillies, it's still a decent deal.

Cosart and Singleton would be the key for me. Any combination with those 2 would be a very good real for the Stros.

The Phillies were linked to Ted Lilly if they weren't going to get Oswalt...

The actual deal was much less impressive than what ya'll had discussed...Philadelphia sends JA Happ, Anthony Gose, and Jonathan Villar.

Astros have flipped Gose to Toronto.

Interestingly, Brett Wallace (who the Astros acquired for Gose) was also flipped for Michael Taylor as the side bar of the deal which landed Philadelphia Roy Halladay.

The fact that the Astros got Brett Wallace for Gose actually adds a good amount of value to this trade. That sidebar trade doesn't make much sense for Toronto.

A lot of people have kind of soured on Wallace at this point. He has little to no defensive value (apparently he isn't even that great at first base), and is OPSing .868. That would be kind of decent if you didn't take into account the fact that Las Vegas has a team OPS of .838. Offensive standards at first base are extremely high. I think an average first baseman in 2009 OPSed .836 in the majors (.359 OBP .477 SLG).

Gose isn't overly impressive numbers-wise yet, but he's still 19 and holding his own in the FSL. Flashes plus tools in almost every area.

A Phillies fan here, here's my perspective: the prospects they gave up were marginal:

    Anthony Gose, and Jonathan Villar

Villar a supposed defensive whiz has made 42 errors this year. And the speedster Gose is only 36/62 in SB attempts.

Happ's a gamer who I will miss, but you can't argue adding a very good arm for Happ and two A level prospects.
