    Default Mendenhall

As I'm doing my fantasy stuff and looking at the box of the game.

Both Mendenhall and Peterson had 69 yards on the ground. Difference? Mendy did it on 10 carries and Peterson on 16 carries.

Mendy had that fumble that huirt but Peterson let one go off his hands right to Fox that put the knife in the vikings.

Just wanted to throw out some perspective. Yes, Mendenhall needs to right his fumbling issue BUT, he ran really well against a Top 10 run defense. I'll take a 6.9 YPC any day

I sensed that in my mind's box-score tracker. Mendy had few carries but a bunch for big yards, that YPC doesn't surprise me.

His fumbling is disturbing and overshadows anything else he did today.

Actually it was not Peterson who aided in the Fox interception...it was #29...Chester Taylor.

100% agree...he's going to cost us games. His fumble took points off the board...not good.

ahhh... thought it was peterson. their numbers are too **** close.

In any case. Mendy ran better of the 2 today. That';s good to see. Always good to see the run game improving and mendy continuing to run well but he's got to stop fumbling the balls and killing drives in the red zone

Fact is we won both the games he fumbled in so he didn't cost us any games. RB's are going to fumble. That is just the way it is. I can totally look past it.

You can't fumble in the redzone and take points off the board. It would have cost us the game if not for Fox being in the right place at the right time. They have to correct this during the bye.

For a historical perspective, does the name Chuck Muncie ring any bells?

Chuck Muncie was the Chargers running back in their late 70's early 80's heyday. Dude could run great, but constantly coughed up the ball in the red zone. Chargers super bowl titles 0. I'm not saying he is the sole reason, but saying a good RB that has a habit of coughing it up in the red zone can kill your team if it can't be corrected.

Mike Alstott coughed it up a lot too.

I don't think there is any doubt that Mendenhall will be a great Rb once he stops fumbling the ball. He carries it like a sack of potato's right now and doesn't protect the ball too well with the loose manner he carries the ball. I can't wait until he does a better job with handling the ball. He will be awesome.

How do you correct Mendy's fumbling? Do you fine him? I say yes. If he is going to fight and dive for extra yardage he **** well better cover the ball up. That is two weeks in a row in the redzone which is unacceptable. We got two weeks to fix this and it's turning into a major problem.

Bye weeks and practice aren't going to correct this problem. Only thing that will correct this problem is that Mendenhall has to hold the ball tighter, better and be more aware of the situation when he's holding onto the ball.

It's like the Sweed situation. you can't teach someone had to catch balls when they've done it before. Same with fumbles. The player just simply has to Do It when they get their chance

His fumbling problem didn't start in the last couple games. You can see the way he carries it, it is going to come out. Thing is, he is young he is going to have to learn but I don't want him to be so worried about holding on to the ball that the rest of his game suffers. Same way Sweed seems to have a mental problem now. He wasn't known to drop passes when we drafted him, he developed this in his time with the Steelers. Coaching staff hasn't done him any favors, don't ruin Mendy too. At the same time I understand this is PROFESSIONAL football not peewee so you can't hold their hands all the time.

The way Mendenhall swings that ball around and his penchant for spinning when he runs into the hole, it'll be hard to "correct" his fumbles. I think he can dramatically limit his fumbles by just being careful in certain situations by covering up. I am sure he knows and I am sure he has been told by his teammates and coaches and I am willing to bet he has ran drills in practice on covering the ball. It either will just takes time as he more and more takes over the lions share of the rb duties and he works his way out of fumbling so much or he may never get over his knack for fumbling....if it is the later, then we have a problem.
