Default Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia jump in AP poll

All three local college teams won yesterday and saw a direct impact this afternoon when the Associated Press poll was released.

Pitt is now at No. 16, after a sound victory against South Florida yesterday in a game in which the Panthers (7-1) entered at the No. 20 spot.

Penn State (7-1) jumps up one spot, to No. 12, after a 35-10 win at Michigan.

And, West Virginia (6-1), following a narrow 28-24 victory against Connecticut yesterday, catapulted into the No. 20 spot. The Mountaineers were previously No. 22.

At the top of the poll, Florida (7-0) made a leapfrog over Alabama (8-0) to earn the No. 1 ranking. Alabama, which was No. 1 last week, fell to No. 2 after a narrow, 12-10 win against Tennessee.

Penn State moved up one spot to No. 10 in the USA Today's Top 25 Coaches' poll while Pitt went up two spots to No. 17. West Virginia also gained two spots to move to No. 20.
