Arrow Tomlin wears all black during HOT weather...

.... I read an article (can't find the **** link!) that says Tomlin wears all black and long sleeve shirts and long pants during HOT weather to send the team a message.

He says the weather does not matter and the players are professionals and should now how to deal with it. He's basically saying that weather is NOT an excuse.

Anyone have a link to this story ?

One of the pictures I posted from Sunday's practice certainly shows Tomlin wearing all black with long sleeves.

That was a big anecdote from his first training camp when he made everyone practice in full pads and everyone eventually started complaining he was making camp too hard.

Here's an article from 2007 that mentions it.

That's pretty cool./ I was looking at War Machine and Bdeff's pictures yesterday and didn't notice the black but noticed that Tomlin had a long sleeve shirt on during some 90 degree high humidity.

Tomlin had to be dying inside those clothes. I love being hot but not when it's self inflicted

Can't speak about the black clothing, cause that's not the color I'd want in the sun, but long sleeves actually makes some sense. The clothing absorbs sweat and actually aids in cooling. When I worked in a mill around molten metal furnaces, we actually wore winter longjohns during the summer just for that reason.

The thing I like about Coach Tomlin is his tough-as-nails attitude and NO-EXCUSES for anything routine.

    Very professional! I love it!

I read the story early this AM on my home PC. I can't find the story or link from here at work.

    It'll surface soon I hope.

I personally think Tomlin is soft and believe he personally needs to be tougher on the players. Not too tough like he was in 2007 and the team seemed to wear down and get injured often but more than last year where camp was being called "Camp Cupcake". From what I've read, Tomlin has done a good job bridging the toughness of camp this season which is great to hear. I think the players need to be more determined and that determination starts now in camp and it starts with the coach and the atmosphere and type of camp that HC brings.

That's pretty much how the whole league operates now tho. I don't care what happens in camp as long as they win.

All black is dumb if absorbs all the sunlight. I wore my black sneakers to the tailgate and it felt like my feet where on fire!

Nah, I don't know if the whole league operates like that. If we can get variations in a short period from one coach then I can't believe that every other camp and coach is doing things 1 way and the same way as another.

It also looked like he packed on a few pounds too. Maybe the black is to sweat out a little weight he gained in the off season.

I'm not saying all camps are the same I just don't think coaches are holding bootcamps and busting everyones balls. If the coach has to whip everyone into shape then they are in trouble. They are pros and they are supposed to keep themselves conditioned. It's just a matter of getting everyone on the same page and I don't think you need whips to do that. I don't even know what's going on down there tbh but like I said I don't care as long as they win.

I don't think coaches hold boot camps either and actually you never really hear much about that stuff outside of the crazy **** Cable was doing with the Raiders...

But there's definitely a difference between camps in them being easier or tougher and it creates the mentality that seeps into the season. If the camp is easier, more lenient, vets are getting more time off, more time to rest, maybe going a little easier on sprints and drills than usual it sets a mindset that you don't have to work as hard and do as much...

You do all of the things in camp, don't give the breaks and such then you're preaching more of a business mentality that gets embedded into the players heads.

I don't care the age of someone, I don't care the talent of someone, atmospheres and mentalities and preparation etc... are completely seperate from age and talent and can really influence the way a person does something.

I don't know about you but I can do one thing with half the determination, know I'm doing it, know that it can get done, know I'm still going to be paid for it... doesn't mean I'm doing it the best I can. It's a lazier mentality that everyone in every walk of life gets. That's why it's important to set the tone and the mentality especially in football where sometimes the smallest things like attitude and determination are what seperates a team.
