Question: How is it possible that the Steelers can keep setting crowd records? If all the games are sold out and there is a maximum seating capacity, then shouldn't the crowd be the same for each game?

    Larry Nishnick, San Diego

BOUCHETTE: The Steelers-Vikings game yesterday attracted 65,597 at Heinz Field, breaking the stadium record of 65,350 set in the AFC title game Jan. 18 and surpassing the regular-season high of 65,110 in the Sept. 10 opener against Tennessee. All three crowds surpassed the listed capacity of 65,050 for Heinz Field. According to a Steelers spokesman, extra premium seating are sometimes set up for such big games and there is more standing room in the private boxes, accounting for the several hundred above the listed capacity. The Steelers do not sell standing-room only tickets otherwise.

The more fans, the louder it will be. Frankly, I am surprised they didn't build Heinz to hold 70k.

They could fill in the open end so it won't be as tough for our new kicker

The stadium could have been built for 100K and they still would not have problems with selling-out games.

Art Rooney Sr. didn't want the new stadium to be any larger. His philosophy was to build the stadium just large enough so that there would always be a demand for tickets. He remembered when Three Rivers Stadium (capacity 59,000) wasn't full and didn't want to take any chances.

With the length of the season ticket waiting-list and the amount of tickets scalped etc...they could have easily made it 70-75K with out any problems.

Tix for the boxes are the same as tix for the stands. The box rights fee is off the charts though, and those who own boxes have to buy all of the tix for each game regardless of who attends.

I want to say those boxes hold on average 14 seats. I've been in boxes in 3 rivers and that's how they were set up, I'm guessing HF is similar.

Still, it goes to show that whoever owns those boxes isn't taking advantage of the tickets that they've already bought.

    ****ing posers.

...that was the question I was asking myself when those idiots, Siragusa, ***** johnston and Kenny" I am envious of my brothers and I only have this job b/c of my brothers" Alberts mentioned that they set an attendance record during the game.

I was thinking they must have added some temp seats. thanks for the info.

Fortunately, I dont think this will be a problem for the forseeable future. It would have been nice to have an additional 5-10k seats. Not that Im in the market for seas tix, but it would've put a dent in the waiting list. Not to mention, it may have made games more affordable for the "real" fans that dont have PSL's and only get a chance to get out a couple times a season (despite the tailgate/parking expense!)
