    Default Morton Starting Tomorrow

    From Dejan

"SATURDAY, 28 AUGUST 2010 12:43 WRITTEN BY DEJAN KOVACEVIC
MILWAUKEE -- The Pirates will recall Charlie Morton to start the game tomorrow against the Brewers, as had been expected for most of the week.

In 14 starts for Class AAA Indianapolis, Morton was 4-4 with a 3.83 ERA, 53 strikeouts and 30 walks in 80 innings.
In 10 starts for the Pirates before being demoted in late May, Morton was 1-9 with a 9.35 ERA."

Justin Thomas was sent back to Indy.

Morton's AAA stint wasn't particularly encouraging. Especially the strikeouts and the walks. He was nowhere near as good as he'd been the previous two seasons. Oh well, I still like the guy a lot and think there's a chance he turns it around. We'll see how it goes.

Yup. I didn't watch the game until very late and Morton looked like Ian Snell out there. He was nibbling at the corners but more importantly it looked like Doumit was *** backwards setting up his pitches. I read something real quick this morning where Russell said Morton wasn't using his fastball enough and I noticed that during the game. One thing I noticed earlier in the season when Morton was getting bombed was apparent last night... the lack of "pitching" seems apparent. I don't know if it's Doumit and his inability to call a game. I'd lie to see Morton get a chance with Snyder for the heck of it. Not sure it makes a great deal of difference since James McDonald is hit or a big time miss with Snyder but it can't hurt

Regardless of what Morton has done this year. There's no way I cut ties with him yet. Even if he has to spend next year in a mop up role while he tries to get it together.

Im with ya. I don't cut ties either. the kid has quality pitches. the goal needs to be for Huntington anmd whoever to figure out exactly why and where Morton is failing and get it fixed. It's not happened at AAA and as evidenced by his MLB game last night, not here either. But the kid is cheap, so take the chance.

There's not really a lot of guys I'd really entirely give up on at this point to be honest. Ryan Doumit IMO because I don't see much value he brings at his age. There';s better stop gaps out there for the value than what Doumit brings and with better or similar risks.
