    Steelers Dennis Dixon says WHAT?

When Pittsburgh Steelers QB Dennis Dixon picked up a copy of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this morning, he had to have said, ” WHAT?” Dennis Dixon was in a long protracted quarterback battle with Byron Leftwich to see who would be named the Pittsburgh Steelers starter while Ben Roethlisberger serves his 4 game league suspension. The newspaper is reporting this morning that Charlie Batch will likely be named the Steelers starter in week one.

Yes, the same Charlie Batch that almost retired, the same Charlie Batch that was reported to be on the bubble. Charlie Batch went from #4 on the depth charter to front and center starter in week one. Dennis Dixon got the majority of the reps in the preseason. Yes, he did have a poor outing in his last game, but really? Demote him and put Charlie Batch in as the lead dog?

I seriously disagree with this move if what is being reported is true. This is a total slap in the face to Dixon, there has to be something more to this story than people are letting on. This is similar to a Tarvaris Jackson/Sage Rosenfels type deal. Rosenfels clearly out-played Jackson and his reward-being shipped out of town. Dixon gets the majority of the preseason work and then is told to sit.

You put the quarterback in that gives you the best opportunity to win games. Charlie Batch attempted 2 passes last season after being out of the league in 2008. If Batch deserves the start over Dixon, then perhaps they ought to simply release him if they feel he’s not ready to start. Ridiculous.

I'm continually amazed by writers stating that Dixon should be the starter. So what if Batch has only played in a limited capacity this preseason? He's still played and more importantly, he's proven that he CAN play when the games count. He has a ton of experience to boot. Dixon, on the other hand, has not proven he can play in real games. Quite the opposite actually. Do these guys realize that the only time Dixon has put up good numbers is against 2nd and 3rd string defenses? If he's starting he won't be playing against those guys!

Of course we wouldn't be having this discussion if the Steelers had been actively addressing this area of the team in the past few years.

Dixon does simply not have the downfield vision needed for a pocket QB. That's why he's so prone to take off with the ball. Doesn't mean that he can't continue to improve, but letting Batch start until HE gets hurt is definitely the correct decision.

The Steelers have to figure out someway to get through the first 4 games. It will be a real test of the MT and BA era.

POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

So.... 10:00 minutes into game 1, Dixon will be in at QB and the Steelers will have no backup.

Dixon is the young QB being groomed to be BigBen's successor or at least his back-up if I am not mistaken!!! Or is he St.Pierre, but a higher draft pick.....destined to sit on the bench forever???

How exactly is Dixon the future? Based on what? If he's the future, the Steelers are in trouble.

Why did we draft Dixon??? Wasn't he supposed to follow BigBen as a starter, or at least a viable backup in case BigBen got hurt....or suspended....If not, then why don't we just cut him and draft aanother St. Pierre....Hell, is Tyler Palko still available?????? Sign him since you show such little value to Dixon!!!

We drafted Dixon because the FO thought he could be a good backup. He isn't. Time to move on. If Dixon wants to be a 3rd string QB, fine, but we need a better #2.

IMO, It's Dixon's time to sink or swim! I think a little confidence is what Dixon needs right now...but Tomlin and BA keep ****in' with his head!!! It's too bad that the Steelers coaching staff is showing so little confidence in either QB.
