    Default It's Opening/ Falcon Week!!!

It's finally here, opening week of the 2010 N.F.L. season and for me personally, with all the off-field drama surrounding the Steelers this off-season it's not a moment too soon.
This year the Steelers kick off the season September 12,at home against an N.F.C. South team the Atlanta Falcons.
The Steelers lead the all-time series 11-2-1 (5-0-1 home,6-2 road) The last two meetings have probably the most exciting,2006 a 41-38 Falcon win in O.T in Atlanta and a 34-34 tie in Pittsburgh in 2002.
I never thought much of Mike Vick as a quarterback, but in these two games he lit the Steelers up. In the 06 game he threw for 232 yards and 4 T.D.'s and in 02 he brought the Falcons back with 17 4th quarter points.
The Steelers have been very successful in openers recently,3-0 under Mike Tomlin, and in fact haven't dropped an opener since 2003.
This opener poses many challenges for the Black and Gold, the first of four games without Ben and many questions on whether last seasons flop was just a fluke or a trend. I.m sure you all are as excited to get started as I am,so ARE YOU READY FOR SOME STEELER FOOTBALL? and aw yea THE FALCONS SUCK!!!
Are these morons getting dumber or just louder-Mayor Quimby

The Falcons are a real team this year and the D is good.

We need to win the turnover and special teams battles to win this came.

How do we win turnovers with Dixon as the QB and our sorry special teams. We have to win despite those two categories. You know Dixon is going to throw pics. You know the special team is going to suck and always a chance of giving up a touch down. Our running game and defense will need to win this game and all our games until Ben returns.

Well......Our D could generate some turnovers and maybe we could get lucky and return a kick or punt. I don't see us winning the battle at the line of scrimmage.

From "Stillers Blog", by Ken Laird....

    September 8, 2010
A few notes heading into Atlanta Falcons week:

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]The Steelers have won 7 straight season openers (last losing on opening weekend in 2002 in the first game in Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass against the Patriots). 2 of those 7 wins have been squeakers, but 5 were blowouts (by 10 or more points). 6 of the 7 wins have come at Heinz Field.

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]The Falcons have also been stout in openers of late, winning both Week 1 games under Head Coach Mike Smith. Atlanta has won 7 of their last 10 season openers, with 3 of the last 4 wins coming on the road.

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]The last meeting between Atlanta and Pittsburgh was a 41-38 OT loss in Atlanta in Bill Cowher's final season of 2006. It was a contest that saw Charlie Batch enter in relief of an injured Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward score a 70-yard TD while losing a shoe, and a game where a false start by WR Nate Washington with 17 seconds left led to an automatic runoff preventing Pittsburgh from attempting a game-winning FG at the end of regulation. The defeat sent the Steelers record to 2-4 at the time, en route to a 2-6 start. Pittsburgh has only 3 of the same offensive starters from that game (Ward, Miller, and Starks) but 8 of the same defensive starters (Polamalu, Clark, Taylor, McFadden, Farrior, Hampton, Smith, and Keisel).

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]Atlanta has never won a game in Pittsburgh, going 0-5-1 in their history. The tie came in 2002, a game in which Tommy Maddox threw for 473 yards passing and Mike Vick for 294. Plaxico Burress had 253 yards receiving. Cowher famously said after the game with emphasis, "We did not lose today." Ward, Farrior, Hampton, and Smith played in the 2002 meeting. Overall, the Steelers lead the series with Atlanta 11-2-1.

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]The Falcons of 2009 allowed only 27 sacks of QB Matt Ryan, going 14 straight quarters without allowing a sack. They nearly set a franchise record for fewest sacks allowed per play (1 per every 21.1) and were 7th best in the NFL in limiting sacks per pass plays. -Atl DE John Abraham's 89.5 career QB sacks is 3rd among active NFL players (behind Joey Porter and Jason Taylor). He had only 5.5 last year, however, down from 16.5 in 2008. The Falcons were 6th worst in the NFL in getting to opposing QBs in 2009, part of the reason their 3rd-down percentage defense was dead last in the league.

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]Atlanta WR Roddy White (85) and TE Tony Gonzalez (83) were one of only four pass catching duos in 2009 to each have over 82 grabs. The others were Welker and Moss (New England), Wayne and Clark (Indy), and Fitzgerald and Boldin (Arizona). White is the first Falcon ever to have three straight years of 80+ catches and 1,100+ yards. Gonzalez, the NFL's top catch, TD, and yardage receiving TE in NFL history, is a catch shy of 1000 for his career. Gonzalez was particularly effective on 3rd downs last year, ranking 6th in the league with 26 grabs on 3rd.

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]Atlanta RB Michael Turner has 27 rushing TDs in 27 career games for the Falcons (17 in 2008). That number is second best in the league behind Minnesota's Adrian Peterson (28 TDs). Turner also missed 5-games with an ankle injury in 2009.

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]The Steelers streak of not allowing 100-yard rushers is an epic one, giving up just 9 over the past 7 seasons. However, the Falcons have a nice 13-game streak going themselves. The only back to rack up 100-yards in a game last season against Atlanta was New England's Fred Taylor.

[HIGH-LIGHT]-[/HIGH-LIGHT]The Falcons went from 55% of their plays called being runs in 2008 to 57% passes in 2009. Atlanta was the 15 best rushing offense and the 14th best passing offense in 2009, missing the playoffs with a 9-7 record.

You outta your mind? The Falcons D blows. Until they show that their defense is better they were ranked...

    21st overall in 2009
28th against the Pass in 2009
10th against the run in 2009

Dunta Robinson isn't going to improve that porous secondary. team has nobody up front that's really a great pass rusher. They ranked 26th in 2009 in sacks. I mean Jonathan Babineaux is their best pass rusher.

Not concerned one tiny bit about the Falcons defense. It's as ****ty as I'm advertising

Against who? The Falcons front 4 are a joke. Be one of the few games we win the game in trenches with the O-Line. We'll dominate defensively and it won't even be close. Stop Turner which we'll do and force matt Ryan to throw which he doesnt want to do
