Default Moss, 7 other recalled from Indy

    From Dejan:

"The Pirates, with their final September recalls, have added outfielder Brandon Moss and Alex Presley, shortstop Pedro Ciriaco, catcher Jason Jaramillo and pitchers Brad Lincoln, Justin Thomas, Brian Bass and Steven Jackson.

All came from Class AAA Indianapolis, and Presley, Moss, Bass and Jackson all needed to be added to the 40-man roster. To make room for those four, pitcher Ross Ohlendorf and first baseman Jeff Clement were placed on the 60-day disabled list, thus officially ending Ohlendorf's season. Also, the team designated for assignment infielder Aki Iwamura and catcher Erik Kratz."

I like all of the callup decisions except I woulda switched Kratz and Jaramillio. I can't stand Jaramillio. Seems to me, Kratz can do everything that Snyder can do for one-tenth of the money.

Argggh. I forgot to mention, Steven Jackson is back. Again. We just can't get ridda this guy.

Kratz will never hit 15 HR a year.

Neither will Snyder. He's done it once. Kratz did it once in his minor league career. For the huge disparity in salary, there is not much difference it what they bring to the table.

Kratz is 30 and has never played in the majors. When he did get a chance he was terrible. Snyder is actually younger and has been providing average-slightly above offense for a catcher for about 5 years now.

Yeah, he's been up a few days now. He has 6 AB so far and has looked pretty terrible in them (not that 6 ABs mean anything at all).

I'm surprised to see Moss called up and very surprised to see Presley.

Moss doesn't surprise me so much. I thought he earned it. What is strange is how all these callups have affected the 40-man roster.

POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

The Dodgers called up John Lindsey, a guy who has been in the minors since 1995. His first MLB call comes at age 33 after 16 seasons.

Presley's callup was not surprising to me. He can play CF and LF - he was playing CF in Indy. I saw him play CF for Indy in one game and was very impressed.

Right now the Bucs only have two legit defensive options for LF/CF. McCutchen's shoulder is clearly ailing him and he can't throw right now. I expect him to be rested a fair amount in September. Presley gives Russell a legit 3rd CF option. This was a niche the team needed to fill and Presley is the one guy who could fill it right now (Gorkys Hernendez is hurt, otherwise he may have gotten a look).
