    Default What about Woodley?

Am I the only one that thinks he has been awful in the preseason.

I know our D is vanilla in the preseason, but I have seen him having his *** handed to him all preseason and he has consistently been missing tackles.

I hope he is just saving his A game for the regular season.

BTW Mendy hasn't looked very good either.

They don't want to bust out the "Splash Plays" too early.

I guess you don't want to "unleash hell" until you play juggernauts like Cleveland, Oakland and Detroit.

Your catching on. There is a time and place to "Unleash Hel" and bust out the "Splash Plays. I suspect it will come in week 5 .

Once play starts, I think Woodley will be fine. I hate to say it but his contract issue has been a big distraction in ST. I remember seeing he and Hines on the sideline during the Carolina game. I'm sure they weren't talking about pass coverage.

As far as Mendy, they just can't wear him out is ST. He'll be fine too.

Believe it or not last season there was a thread, it may have been at the old Steelers Forum. Suggesting due to his poor preseason play and the fact he looked fat, Woodley should be benched in favor of Arnold Harrison.

With hindsight as 20/20, not exactly a smart idea.

I'm not overly concerned with Pre-season performances from guys like this. Usually it's QB performancer and such that I concern myself with in Pre-season along with basics such as blocking, tackling, simple pass protection, catching etc...

So much in football is based on execution of plays and outsmarting your opponent that it's tough to way too much on Pre-Season performances statistically for a variety of reasons.

to be honest I'm more concerned with how James Harrison saw a big drop statistically last year (in meaningful games) + his age than Woodley who got better in a lot of key stats like solo tackles and sacks. Harrison saw a drastic decline in those areas and both played a lot of games behind/besides backup linemen too.

Mendy ran for a 5.6 and 4.4 YPC in the final 2 preseason games. He'll be fine. I thought he's actually ran well. Playcalling is questionable and in those first couple of preseason games the line allowed penetration into the backfield as soon as the exchange was made.

Yeah I kind of worried about that too. I put it off to the fact that he got mugged every play and the refs refused to call anything, but he needs to do way better than he did last year, it was a dissapointment.

Then you must have been very concerned with this pre-season.

The thing is, the refs mugged him in 2008 too and he put up better numbers. So i'm concerned with Harrison the same as I am a guy like Farrior where age comes in and causes one to lose a step. Defenses and designs and such probably rely more on Harrison to produce like he did in 2008 and when he doesn't or when Farrior can't keep up with a guy underneath it can have negative results

    I am.

I'm worried terrified of the offense with Dixon starting but then again Arians found a way once to take a garbage QB like Kelly Holmcomb and make him look decent, so who knows but yeah, the poor tackling scares me

Seriously!!I'm starting to believe that the defense enrolled in the Troy Polamalu school of tackling.
